Summary

THE COLLATERAL WIFE By Anjali Rao He bought her freedom. Now she’s trapped in his world. When Kavya’s life crumbles under the weight of her ex-husband’s ruthless betrayals, she finds herself at the mercy of the one man more dangerous than the enemies at her door: Aryan. Billionaire. Titan. A man who controls empires with an iron fist and guards his own heart behind an impenetrable wall of ice. To save her from ruin, Aryan claims Kavya as his collateral—bringing her into his gated island estate under the guise of a cold, transactional arrangement. But behind closed doors, a dangerous game of control and unspoken desire ignites. Both are consumed by a fiery pride that refuses to break, wearing masks of cold indifference while stealing lingering glances in the quiet dark. Yet, as the shadows of past secrets return to tear them apart, the razor-thin line between hatred and dangerous passion begins to blur. In a world built on deception, can a forced arrangement spark a true surrender? Or will their unyielding egos destroy the only real connection either has ever known? "He took her to settle a debt. She stayed to unravel his soul." A dark, high-tension romance packed with fiery angst, forced proximity, intense enemies-to-lovers friction, and a cold billionaire who will stop at nothing to claim what’s his.

The Gaze

Kavya shifted on the cushioned beach chair, brushing her dark hair over one shoulder to expose the long curve of her neck and collarbone to the breeze. Her turquoise sundress draped lightly over her body, the hem riding up her thighs just enough to highlight her soft, glowing skin. The silver anklets at her feet glinted in the afternoon sun whenever she moved. Taking a slow sip of her drink, she leaned back with an easy, unstudied sensuality that felt entirely magnetic.

Siddharth watched her from the shade of their private cabana—a perfect picture of contentment. He found a deep, almost primal satisfaction simply observing her: languid, beautiful, and entirely his. She was his wife, and the thought that this devastating beauty belonged strictly to him—that he was the only man alive who knew every curve, every secret shudder of her body—filled him with a heavy, intoxicating pride.

She was reading a paperback while occasionally letting one leg drape over the edge of the cushion, drawing attention to the graceful line of her calf and thigh beneath the thin fabric.

He felt that familiar wave of possessive love—a deep-seated satisfaction that belonged only to him. Kavya, sensing his gaze, lifted her head and smiled a slow, utterly genuine smile at him, which made the low hum of ocean waves seem suddenly insufficient background noise.

“It’s perfect here,” she murmured, her voice husky with relaxation.

Siddharth pushed off the cushion and walked to sit beside her, leaning in to kiss her temple lightly. “Absolutely perfect.” He brushed a stray strand of hair from her cheek, his fingers lingering on the soft skin just beneath her ear.

It was then, across the expanse of sun-drenched sand and perfectly manicured lawn, that the atmosphere shifted subtly. A new group of guests arrived: a couple strolling with an effortless, confident stride. The man—Aryan—was tall, built like an athlete who knew how to move through space; his skin was tanned deep gold, and he wore linen shorts and a loose shirt open over bare chest. Beside him walked Ishita, whose laugh sounded bright and easy against the tropical backdrop.

Siddharth’s initial focus remained entirely on Kavya—the delicate curve of her neck, the flush high on her cheekbones from the sun—but his peripheral vision registered Aryan immediately.

Aryan stopped a short distance away, ostensibly to admire a piece of local art display near the resort entrance, but his attention seemed to pivot slowly, almost magnetically, until it landed squarely on Kavya.

Siddharth felt an immediate, visceral tightening in his gut—a sudden electric current mixed with something sharper and more primal: interest.

Aryan’s gaze was not a casual glance; it was a deliberate, deep-focus assessment that stripped away the sundress, the setting, and the years of shared history. It slid over Kavya’s collarbone, paused at the soft curve of her breasts beneath the thin fabric, and finally settled on her mouth—a lingering, appreciative hold that felt too long to be accidental.

Kavya, oblivious in her absorbed state, gave a small laugh at something Siddharth said, tilting her head back slightly. That simple movement seemed to catch Aryan’s eye like a physical blow. He didn’t look away; he watched the graceful arc of her throat and the way her long hair spilled over her shoulder with an undisguised, open admiration that was both potent and utterly non-verbal.

He sees you. The thought resonated in Siddharth’s mind, sharp as glass and intensely hot. It wasn’t just lust; it felt like recognition—the kind of look a predator gives to something exquisite and desirable.

Siddharth watched the whole exchange unfold, his muscles tensing subtly under his linen shirt. He noticed Aryan’s profile: that easy confidence mixed with an almost reckless boldness in his eyes. Siddharth felt a deep, hot flush creeping up his neck, a mix of jealousy for the attention on his wife and a shocking surge of arousal at its source.

He wants her, Siddharth thought, recognizing the raw hunger he saw reflected in Aryan’s steady gaze. And that desire... it’s so visible.

Kavya eventually followed Aryan’s line of sight, sensing the intensity of the moment even if she couldn’t pinpoint the cause. She offered a polite, gentle smile in his direction, and Aryan returned it—a slow, confident smirk that didn’t quite reach his eyes, leaving them alight with promise.

Aryan finally moved, giving Kavya one last quick sweep of the eye that made Siddharth’s breath hitch slightly, before turning to walk toward the group.

The instant Aryan was gone, leaving only the lingering warmth of his gaze in the air, a profound silence settled—the sound of the ocean seemed suddenly louder, more intimate.

Siddharth turned fully to Kavya, his usual warm smile replaced by something deeper, charged with unspoken energy. He didn’t touch her immediately; he just looked at her, letting the weight of what had happened settle between them.

Kavya was still resting beneath the midday sun, a warm flush on her skin that was entirely from the heat. She remained blissfully unaware of the profound shift that had just taken place inside Siddharth’s chest.

“What is it?” she murmured softly, finally sensing his intensity. “You look like you saw something.”

Siddharth leaned down until his lips were brushing her earlobe, sending a shiver down her spine despite the heat. His voice was low—a rich murmur that felt more intimate than any whisper.

“I just realized,” he began, letting his fingers trail lightly over the curve of her exposed shoulder blade, “that you are absolutely stunning, my love.” He paused, allowing the compliment to hang in the humid air. Then, with a subtle shift in tone—a delicious mix of deep devotion and raw curiosity—he added: “And people notice it. They notice every single thing about you.”

He left the sentence hanging between them, unspoken and loaded. Though he kept his smile warm and reassuring, a cold, ambition-driven impulse was taking root inside his chest—a silent calculation he had never dared voice aloud, but one that was quickly becoming a line he was willing to cross.
