Summary

This deep and heartfelt text will be part of my second novel, “Twenty-Forty Places”, but it is so special and meaningful to me that it deserved its own space. I wrote it during a moment of hope in love and excitement, right after finding new energy and regaining my inspiration to return to writing as my personal therapy. These words come directly from one of the purest and most sincere wishes of my heart, and I am waiting for it to come true.

...wherever he might be

Dear love,

I don’t think I noticed you the way people usually notice someone. It wasn’t loud. It didn’t arrive all at once. It was quieter than that.

Maybe it was your smile first—not just how it looked, but how it felt… like it came from somewhere thoughtful, somewhere real, and then, slowly, it was everything behind it.

The way you seem to move through the world with intention.

The way you don’t rush to fill silence, but let things mean something.

In a space where everything feels fleeting—swipes, small talk, half-formed connections— you feel… deliberate, like you actually see things and maybe more importantly, you "feel" them. I think that’s what stayed with me.

You said dating can feel empty sometimes and I understand that—how things begin quickly and disappear just as easily.

But there’s something about you that doesn’t feel like it belongs to that pattern.

You feel like the opposite of forgetting.

Maybe it’s because you’re drawn to depth.

To people who carry their own world.

To conversations that don’t just pass time, but quietly take it away from you.

I smiled when I heard your idea of a first date... a library café.

Not just because it’s different, but because it makes sense.

Sitting beside someone, getting lost in something that holds your attention,

letting silence and gentle, soft-spoken conversation weave into each other…

...That kind of presence is rare and somehow, it feels like you.

I don’t know where this goes, or what shape it takes, but I do know this... in a world that often feels rushed and surface-level, you feel like something worth slowing down for.

And I think that means something.

—From someone who found this worth pausing for.

Sylvia

jo987_123: This is a good story, but it needs a good editor to go through this iteration and fix the mistakes. The pov changes from 1st person to 3rd person, often, and sometimes within one sentence. It needs a liberal sprinkling of punctuation marks throughout, and a decision needs to be made about the char...
