12 February - A Journey

It all began on a dark and lonely evening as the wind howled outside like a thousand wolves, and rain battered the window relentlessly and without mercy. Here I found myself idling by my computer scrolling through a media site for meeting pen pals from all over the world. Many passed by without interest or just did not suit me. Some intrigued me, roping me in, but nothing came from them. The search continued until finally coming across a post from an Elvish woman, allegedly in her early 30’s looking for a friends or a potential soul mate. I hummed and hawed before slipping her an introductory reply on her post stating myself as a trans woman in her midd 20’s looking for a friend or potential lover, but was curious on speaking to an Elf . A few moments passed whereupon a nice surprise in the form of a reply to my comment. Cautiously it was opened as thoughts passed around my mind as to what she was going to say. She introduced herself as “Chamelle of Slagakan”, to which I introduced myself to her in return as Teagan Uig. For a few days we spoke in text, at first with casual formalities before flowing into conversations around who we were and our interests. It did not take too long before finally we entered into video calls with one another, my first impression taking me aback upon laying eyes with her. Chamelle appeared incredibly fair with a sun kissed face, and possessed a friendly demeanour. Her eyes bright green and her nose large but gently slopped, curving at the tip. Her ears though pointed to a single tip backwards, and ended at a regular ears length away. She spoke with a soft and calming voice, often her hands animated with every word, sometimes energetically, sometimes lightly. A month passed by when eventually she expressed her desire to meet up with me, first proposing I come to visit her, in exchange for her to spend time in my neck of the woods. The prospect felt exciting, adventurous, yet anxiety still seeped deep into my mind. My hands lightly shaking she proposed we meet up by the small bell tower in the middle of the town square, which she explained as “A beautiful spot to meet up, and a place my townsfolk love to meet new friends, or just relax”. I accepted, and asked her if there were any dangerous areas to void, to which she replied “There are unpleasant places, but the journey should be safe if you keep to the main road, as the countryside may not be the friendliest place. It may seem beautiful and whimsical, but trust me without a guide it is a bad idea”.

The week beginning the 12th of February saw me arrive within a great meadow stretching as far as the eye could see. A great carpet of grass draped itself over every hill and flat plain, dashed with many groups of flowers which possessed colours ranging from bright yellows to reds and dark blues. Leading through it all is a single path wide enough for a group of 6 people to lazily stroll down, as some groups did. Alongside occasional carts and small electric buses which hummed along at a steady pace, letting of a soft ‘honk honk’ upon passing. Along this road I caught sight many of my kind and the ‘Elvish’ looking folk who I will in due coarse be seeing more of as my journey ends at the town of Caillick. The path is mostly smooth and well kept with the occasional grounds worker who can be seen cutting away vegetation at the sides, and whom would sometimes stop me for brief conversations. The ‘Elvish’ types were particularly keen on conversation no matter the time nor circumstances.

Strolling along the path for what felt like an eternity of endless meadow, I eventually came to what looked like a large stone house appearing to occupy the inside of the hill, where its grand circular front door and many of its equally windows sat cosily behind rich green frames. Atop the front door sat an ornately decorated sign which read ‘Calskas inn’. Upon entering one could notice the fresh smell of roses filling their nose, and the gentle tone of background conversation coming from room on the right where a quick glance through the partially opened door, revealed many different peoples sitting around tables with food and drinks. The front desk was within a dozen or so steps away, staffed by a middle aged looking gentlemen who could be visibly seen reading a book. Upon approachment his eyes peered up, followed by a friendly expression. “Good evening, may I help you?”

My reply followed swiftly “Do you have a spare bedroom for the night?”

“Yes we have a single bedroom or a collective room. Since you look very new to these parts, the later is a a room with a few bunk beds and costs six times less than a single room, but just be prepared to have any old characters wandering in at odd times”.

“Think I shall have the single room, just for the privacy and hopefully a better sleep”. Once the room was paid for at a steep 120 mint coins; the gentleman guided me upstairs through narrow wooden passages until we reached the room I’d be sleeping in for the night. The room was a fair sized room with a single bed sitting by the side on the floor facing the window, giving an excellent view of the world outside, albeit mostly of the sky and hills. Near the back a crooked wooden door lead to a small bathroom, granting me the perfect luxury to wash off all of the days sweat. The cool shower water flowed over my sun beaten skin, soothing deep into my very pores. Whence dried with a gentle towel, my skin felt brand new and enlightened. Slipping my nightwear on, all one could feel was the freeing of fresh air flowing around them. However given my long and exhausting journey, there was no more energy left to prance around the room, instead slipping under the comfortably soft covers of my rented bed. They felt so airy, so soft, and so fresh. Yet where I lay was a little indented along my bodies length "Seems a little too 'caved in' here. Probably the work of many a couple, 'friend' or whatever one passes for a sleeping parter. Ugh, still the bed feels so cosy, just want to lay here forever". As I looked out the window my eyes caught the sun setting upon a beautiful blue sky, one could say it felt as if they were in a beautiful dream, a beautiful fantasy. Indeed upon falling asleep it was as if I had re-awoken into the real world with the beautiful weather and people below talking with drinks in their hands. There’s not much else from my recollection, but a ruckus outside at 1am in the morning had awoken me into a dark room. Hobbling out of bed and staggering over to the window, my eyes caught sight of a fight down below, along with the familiar grunts, shouts, breaking of glass and crashing sounds forcing their way into my ears. Pulling myself back just as a glass hit the frame of my window, splattering its contents all over the window. “Better stay away from all of that, hopefully it does not come in here”. Stumbling away from the window and over to my bedroom door, I peered out searching for….. for something, however only a plump Elvish looking woman stood out in the corridor, back slumped against the wall with a pipe in hand. Her gaze averted to me “Better stay in there Mrs, do not worry too much as I am well equipped to keep these corridors safe. Much like my co-worker will be making his way outside right now”.

Nodding my head gently, I closed the door, however something white caught my eye. Upon lighting up the subject, it revealed itself to be a small piece of paper with some unintelligible writing on it. Opening it up revealed more writing, but recognisable. The letter read "Looking for some company? Looking to ease your loneliness, then come down and meet myself, Melissa in the bar for a small fee we can ease life's discomforts, whether by the bar or under the sheets". Looking back at my side of the bed, a feeling of unease filled me "Might just sleep on the other side this time". Slipping into the opposite side of the bed, yet again my back sunk into a curved area. "Looks like we will just have to sleep in the middle tonight". Flipping over to the middle, once more I sank into a depression "Ugh. May as well just get to sleep, it is only for one night" My eyes closed and sleep was attempted, as the chaotic noise outside died down to my great relief.
