Story Notes

The entire trilogy of The Havenport Chronicles, however, was birthed a little differently, and it actually predates my Wattpad era. It began one night during a midnight feeding with my daughter, at the height of COVID, as an idea for a world destroyed by racial differences and a “solution”: a neuro-ID chip that forced users to see one another as a specific, preset phenotype in an attempt to eliminate prejudice.

The idea was only the beginning. The worlds of Havenport and the Citadel grew and evolved over almost six years before I finally began writing the story. Characters, histories, relationships, politics, technology and entire societies developed in my head long before I ever put the first chapter onto a page.

The trilogy is set in a fictionalised futuristic South Africa and follows Shiloh Anne Grace and Liam Michaels through a story of love, loss, identity, war, prejudice, and the secrets hidden beneath the surface of a seemingly perfect society.

At its heart, The Havenport Chronicles asks a question that has always fascinated me: what would happen if we could completely eliminate the precepts we use to judge one another, only to discover that prejudice was never really about what we saw in the first place?

Shiloh is a woman who has spent her entire life believing in the world she was born into. Liam is about to challenge almost everything she thinks she knows. Their story is as much about discovering the truth as it is about discovering one another.

I write for myself, but it is always a pleasure to know that my work has touched my readers. Every vote, comment, message and piece of feedback reminds me that the worlds I have carried in my head for years can become real for someone else, too.
