The Walts of Nowhere

Silence covered the place, the creak of the wood as someone made its way through was the only sound that could be heard, the theater was empty, at least it would be if it wasn't for the girl above the stage,her position was perfect, her expression was calm and her attire was neat, everything about her was perfect at least in paper, in the silence of the room she started moving, an Adagio, calm and sweet, then an Arabesque, her body trembled but she kept her cool, at least until someone called her -Hey the rotisserie chicken is dancing again!- hearing that she fell down, the girls that entered laughed at her and made a movement like her fall caused and earthquake just to humiliate her even further, she couldn’t move, not because of any injurie but pure embarrassment about having been seen, the laughs of the group were silenced as they went away happy with what they had done, the girl over the stage bites her lips out of rage before getting up and going back to the changing room, the place was for her alone as no everyone else had gone home already -you can do it… just ignore them- she murmured those words with bitter hope -so it was true, you are still here Eulalie- the voice of a woman captured the attention of the girl, when she looked at the door she found her teacher standing right there -i heard the scream of Anna while i was going to my office… i already scolded them, don’t let them get in your nerves, you are one of my best students remember that- Eulalie looked down once again and let out a heavy sigh -Thanks miss Ivanna- The teacher saw how she was still down, but she knew she couldn’t do much -your friend came to look for you- she said with hope of making her feel a bit better, and it worked -Ani is here? what time is it?- she changed herself faster now that she knew someone was waiting for her outside -it’s passed 6 didn’t you hear the bell Eli?- the pinkish color of her skin was drained, she just sprinted out of there -oh god it’s late! thanks for your words miss Ivanna!- the teacher chuckled seeing her run outside, to meet with her friend.

Outside the building was a boy with brown hair waiting for Eulalie, when he heard the door and saw her coming out he smiled and waved before frowning -Girl you forgot our outing again didn’t ya?- Eulalie laughed embarrassed and nodded -Sorry Anore, got caught in a trance while dancing- the boy shaked his head and poked her friends forehead -whatever you say Eli, just come now Emilia is waiting for us at the park already- he took her hand and started pulling her while running, even when he was smaller than Eli he had an easy pull in with that tiny body, the streets of the city were nothing but noisy and lively as always, the sun wasn’t going to stay up for long so they had to rush through the people, their city was surrounded by forests some of them grew inside and were taken care for as parks for the people to visit, they were going to one of them -how was your day today Eli?- Anore looked behind him to talk to her, he was smiling, giving her a sense of calm -it wasn’t great but i did have time to do extra practice- they stopped at a green light having some to rest -Carla and her group again?- hearing him Eulalie just nodded with a sense of sadness -but it doesn’t matter, i’ll be like my brother… even better- Anore sighed and padded her head before running again when the light turned red.

After running for a while they finally got to their destiny passing by the sign of “Silverlake Grove” a park known for its lake and small ponds, they were headed to the north of the park where they found another girl sitting over a blanket on the ground, when she saw them she waved with a smile -Finally! What took you so long guys?- she had a big book on her lap putting it aside to get up and hug both of them -Eulalie we have enough with the three of us going to different schools in the city for you to be late as always- the face of the dancer turned red for a second before hugging her back -Sorry Amelia i know, but it’s nice seeing you again- the three of them squeezed each other on a big group hug before letting go and sitting down on the blanket -how’s the garden going?- Eulalie turned her head to see Anore who just scratched his head -a bit complicated to be honest, the weeds in the park are a tough contender even for me, but the flowers are blossoming already i’ll bring you girls some of my roses when they are ready- the eyes of both of them glowed with happiness, when it came to flowers the ones that Anore grew where the most colorful and aromatic in the whole city -what about you Amelia, i heard about the writing contest at your school- Amelia looked nervous when he asked that - eh… ummm.. yeah i’ll be participating… uumm… did any of you hear about the incident at the bakery near eastpine plaza?- Anore and Amelia rolled their eyes at hear avoiding responding but heard her words with curiosity -i heard about it, someone entered and eaten all they had even the flour and then left the whole bakery worse than Anore’s room…- hearing Amelia the boy just poked her side with his elbow making her laugh a bit -my room isn’t that messy… but you are right, and it wasn’t just the bakery, Dots and Toys the store was also attacked, every toy was found torn apart like some mad dog played with em- the three were happy gossiping and making theories about what had happened in those places -but Eulalie you may know more, after all the theater down the road from your school was also messed up right?- the black haired girl took a second remembering but she did know something -oh yeah miss Ivanna said that we had to be careful if we ever ended our practices late at night, she said the security guard had said he saw a bunch of ghosts munching on the seats, she didn’t believe him but once when she was leaving late at night she saw one floating around the school but it wasn’t a thorn sheet or anything like what the guard described, she said i had a red cape and a scythe, she hid inside until it disappeared, since then she stays at the school until all the students had gone home safely- the other two heard what she was saying with baffled faces before starting to plot a new theory -maybe it was someone and not something like some kind of weirdo or creepy killer could you imagine?- the girls laughed at his words but something was true for some time many weird and dangerous encounters had been happening around the city, people talked about a vampire on the subway, ghosts at the entertainment district, humanoid creatures near the shopping district and more all around the place, something was happening already but they didn’t know what it was.

They were having fun gossiping and talking, but they were unaware of what was happening around as the sun settled down, purple caps pf what looked like giant mushroom started appearing around the bushes, one of the behind Amelia who didn’t noticed the red glove that graved her book, when the hand was close enough all of their phones started ringing giving them a good scare -gha! Amelia is this one of your jokes?!- Amelia had a surprised face looking at Eulalie denying with her head -No no i promise this wasn’t me… not this time at least- the three checked their phones but those were stuck on a bright white screen, for a second Amelia could see something poking out from the screen but it all stopped when the the strange mushroom stepped back with her book in hand, they were confused, Anore checking his phone and Eulalie looking at him waiting for an answer, but Amelia noticed another problem -ummm… guys where’s my book?- she started looking around, as second passed she started stressing and searching more frenetic -hey hey, it’s okay, we don’t know where it can be but we will help you- Eulalie tried to calm her down, it seemed to work at least a little -i can’t calm down, it the book you two gifted me- Anore tried to remember for a second -oh you mean the big book of fairy tales?, that things is big so it shouldn’t take us much time to find it, take it with ease Ami- he got up and padded her with a warm touch that seemed to calm her down -okey okey…- she just started breathing and got up from her seat with his help, -i’ll look around the edge of the lake, Anore you go to the path and Ami looked around the bushes- Eulalie was always the one in charge as the other complied with her directions, the time passed and the moon was visible between the branches, and the amount of purple mushrooms grew enough for them to notice -Hey anore… do you know what these… are- Amelia’s eyes opened wide when she walked close enough to one that she saw it smile, the alarm started going on again scaring her even further with a scream even the other side of the city could have heard, without a second thought Eulalie took her by the arms and pulled her away from the thing, Anore came just in time to see the thing taking out another mushroom -Oh hell no!- he took a rock from the floor and threw it in it’s direction hitting it right in what looked like the head, with the opportunity both girls ran in Anore’s direction -Time to go now!- they started running away -don’t have to say it twice- Eulalie was the fastest pulling them with all her strength when they heard “MUSHROOM MASH!” looking back they saw the mushrooms throwing more tiny ones in their direction, when those touched a surface they exploded, one of the explosions sending them flying to the ground, the alarm, the bright light of their phones, those things getting closer and closer they were in a panic, then Amelia remembered what she saw before checking the screen of her phone again, now she was sure something was coming out, she could only think of one thing “they feel pain, there are no more rocks near us… this better work” -she pointed her phone at the creatures approaching, the object started poking out of the screen more and more, it’s shape was weird it looked like some kind of device, but they couldn’t care less at the moment, but her idea worked, the object came out with enough force to knock one out hitting it tight in the face, maybe to much force as it bounced back hitting Anore on the forehead -AAUU! WHAT WAS THAT?!- he screamed in pain for a second before being shut down by his friend -i’ll explain later just point your phones at them and shoot!- amelia took the object of the floor leaving her friend visibly confused but they didn’t have any better ideas doing what she said, two more objects came out of their phones as fast as bullets, seeing the things were knocked out they just took the things from the floor and went to the exit of the park.

They ran away as fast as they could, going out of the park without stopping. When their minds finally calmed down, they were in front of Eulalie’s home -ammm… pajama party tonight?...- she didn’t know what else to say, her friends sighed exhausted -okay we better do… i don’t think it’s safe to go home now…- getting inside they were greeted by Eulalie’s father -oh Anore Amelia i didn’t know you were coming, dinner is almost ready if any of you is staying- Eulalie hugged her father the stress of the situation finally fading -thanks mister Glow- Amelie was also calming down but Anore just took the opportunity to see what came out of their phones, it was almost eggshaped and had a tiny screen, it almost looked like a walkie talkie of some sort, he wanted to say something but seeing the girls finally calm he preferred to ask later.
