Prologue
December 1st, 1869
Dear Diary,
The year is 1869 as I sit at my desk and write this journal entry I cannot bear to recall my life living through the Civil War. I was only sixteen when it occurred and this greatly impacted not only my life, but those of my fellow friends and neighbors to this day. I never thought such a war would change the course of history. This war lasted four total years and the aftermath is devastating as well. I can recall a time in the South where we had barbecues, holiday gatherings or parties. I cannot allow myself to reminisce on those memories without shedding tears for I remember having the innocence of a young woman before my life was completely changed forever.
