Chapter 1

Losing His Father and Finding a New Source of Support

While studying in the tenth grade, Md. Kabir Hossain faced another heartbreaking turning point in his young life.

His father passed away.

The news came as a devastating shock.

For Kabir, losing his father was not simply the loss of a family member. It felt as though he had suddenly lost the person who had stood behind him throughout the most difficult years of his childhood.

Kabir’s life had never been easy.

From a young age, he had experienced hardship, uncertainty, and many struggles. Yet, despite everything, there had always been one person he could look toward for protection and guidance—his father.

His father had looked after him as best as he could. He worried about Kabir’s future, thought about his needs, and carried the responsibilities of the family according to his ability.

Kabir knew that his father was not a wealthy man. Life had never given their family many luxuries. But a father’s love is not measured by wealth.

For Kabir, his father’s presence itself had been a source of security.

And then, suddenly, that presence was gone.

Kabir was still a tenth-grade student.

His SSC examination was approaching, and he was standing at an important stage of his education. Like any young student, he had dreams about the future. He wanted to continue his studies and build a better life.

But after his father’s death, those dreams suddenly seemed uncertain.

The loss brought not only emotional pain but also a difficult practical question:

Who would now take responsibility for Kabir?

His elder sisters had already been married.

His elder brothers were also married and had families of their own. They had children, household responsibilities, and many demands on their time and resources.

The family that had once lived together had gradually become divided into separate households.

Kabir understood these realities.

He knew that his brothers and sisters had their own responsibilities. Yet he was still young and still dependent on his family.

He needed food.

He needed clothing.

He needed books and school expenses.

Most importantly, he needed someone who would stand beside him while he completed his education.

The death of his father had therefore created a painful emptiness in both his heart and his daily life.

At times, Kabir must have wondered what would happen to his education.

Would he be able to continue studying?

Would he have to give up his dreams?

Would he be able to build a future without the person who had supported him for so many years?

These questions weighed heavily on his young mind.

But life, even in its darkest moments, sometimes provides support from unexpected places.

Kabir was not completely alone.

His elder brother stepped forward.

He understood the difficult situation his younger brother was facing. He knew that Kabir was still a student and that, after their father’s death, someone needed to take responsibility for him.

One day, his elder brother called Kabir close and spoke to him with affection.

“From now on, you will eat and stay at my home. Whenever you need money for your studies, just tell me.”

Those simple words meant a great deal to Kabir.

After losing his father, Kabir had felt as though the foundation beneath his life had suddenly disappeared.

But hearing his elder brother make that promise gave him a small but important sense of security.

Someone was still there for him.

Someone still cared about his future.

Someone was willing to take responsibility for him.

His elder brother did not merely offer comforting words.

He genuinely accepted responsibility for Kabir.

He helped provide for his food, clothing, education, and other necessary expenses according to his ability. He gave Kabir the opportunity to continue his studies at a time when giving up might have seemed like the easiest option.

For Kabir, this support was more valuable than he could easily express.

There was also another person whose kindness became deeply important in his life—his elder sister-in-law.

She was a kind-hearted woman who treated Kabir with genuine affection.

She never made him feel like an outsider.

Instead, she welcomed him into the household and cared for him almost as though he were her own younger brother.

This mattered greatly to Kabir.

After losing his father, he needed more than financial support. He needed affection. He needed to feel that he still belonged somewhere.

His sister-in-law helped give him that feeling.

She cared about whether Kabir had eaten properly. She paid attention to his needs and understood that his education was important. Whenever he needed something and she was able to help, she tried to do so.

Her kindness may have seemed simple in everyday life, but to Kabir, those small acts of care carried enormous meaning.

When someone has experienced loss, even a small gesture of kindness can become a powerful source of strength.

Kabir gradually began to realize something important.

Although his father was no longer beside him, he had not been completely abandoned by life.

There were still people who cared about him.

There were still people who wanted him to succeed.

There were still people willing to help him stand when life had knocked him down.

That realization slowly gave Kabir new courage.

He returned his attention to his studies.

The pain of losing his father did not disappear overnight. Grief does not work that way.

There were probably moments when he remembered his father and felt the emptiness all over again.

There were moments when he wished he could hear his father’s voice or sit beside him once more.

But life had to continue.

The SSC examination was approaching.

Kabir knew that if he wanted to build a better future, he had to continue moving forward.

His elder brother’s support and his sister-in-law’s affection became part of that journey.

Their kindness did not erase Kabir’s sorrow, but it helped him carry it.

And perhaps that is one of life’s greatest lessons: sometimes we cannot change the loss we have suffered, but the love and support of others can give us the strength to continue.

Kabir’s childhood had already taught him that life could be painful and unpredictable.

Now, the loss of his father taught him another lesson—that responsibility can arrive suddenly, and that a person may have to become stronger before he feels ready.

His father was gone.

But Kabir’s journey was not over.

His dreams were still alive.

His education was still continuing.

And somewhere ahead, an uncertain future was waiting for him.

Through the grief of losing his father, the responsibility accepted by his elder brother, and the selfless affection of his elder sister-in-law, Kabir slowly found a new source of strength.

Life had made him cry many times.

It had taken away people and moments he could never bring back.

Yet, each time he seemed close to falling, someone appeared to help him stand again.

Kabir was beginning to understand that perhaps life was not only about the people we lose.

It was also about the people who remain beside us when we need them most.

And with that new understanding, he gathered his courage and continued walking toward the future.

He did not know what awaited him.

He did not know how many more challenges would come.

But he knew one thing:

He could not give up.

His father’s memory would remain a part of him, but Kabir would carry that memory forward—not by stopping his journey, but by continuing it.

A new chapter of his life had begun.

And the road ahead was still long.

To Be Continued…
