Lant had been walking for nearly an hour, and his arms and legs had long since lost all feeling. It didn’t help that he had been dragging around two limp bodies in an old sled. He didn’t have to carry little Alesta though, she was happily running along, jumping over logs and waving her stick around.
It was a shame Duchess Levisa had ordered him to get rid of the poor girls, and made him swear on his family's life to do so. He promised he would, but the Duchess had left out one tiny little detail. She didn't tell him how to do it. So he got his old friend Max to scrounge up some memory serum for him with the little magic he still had, and slipped the serum into their drinks before they left. Seeing their bodies go limp he immediately felt bad and almost turned back, but one glare from Duchess Levisa reminded him what was at cost. At least he didn’t need to do it to Alesta though, since there was only enough memory serum for two girls.
“Lant! It ah lillil snail!” said Alesta, talking in her baby talk and proudly showing a slimy slug crawling its way up her arm.
“Nice, that ones really big!” he said leaning down to look at it. Alesta smiled up at him and ran off. Lant laughed and raced after her being careful not to tip over the sled with the other two siblings.
It was sad to know these sweet little girls would grow up separate from each other and never know of their past. Never knowing what they had lost. He would never understand why the Duchess hated these sweet girls. No. Not true. He understood why the duchess hated them but, he couldn’t understand how the duchess was so cruel she would give up her own daughters because of her hunger for power. Unbeknownst them, these little girls were Duchess Levisa’s daughters, therefore the rightful heirs to the throne. This Lant knew, what he didn't know was he didn't have all the children. He was missing one.
