Snippet 1

My friend Lilly and I were walking down the street after school when Lilly suddenly said, "You know, I lied."

I turned around to look at her and said in response, "Huh?"

"I lied about your shirt. I hate it. It would look good on me but not you."

Her word stunned me. This was my best friend telling me that she hated my shirt and that it would look better on her than me. Earlier she told me that it looked good on me.

"What?" was all I managed to croak around the lump in my throat.

"You heard me. I hate your shirt and I hate you. I said I was lying when I said that we could be friends. You are a disgrace to student body and no one likes you."

Those words were like salt on an open wound. It stung so bad I stepped back from her. Then after about a minute or so the most popular girls in school stepped around the corner and called to Lilly.

"Hey, Lilly! Are you coming or not?" Allena called from where she stood next to her perfect boyfriend, Leo.

"Yea! I'm coming. Just taking care of some unfinished business, girl!"

Hearing Lilly call Allena "girl" was enough to shock my brain into action. Several thought ran through my brain. One: Lilly was not lying now. Two: she was no longer my friend. Three: she was never my friend, Four: Lilly well and truly hated me.

YukkeTee: This isn’t just a romance. It’s the kind of slow-burn, messy kind of love that feels real—where two people carry scars and walls, and still choose each other anyway. The tension isn’t just between them; it’s in the quiet moments, the way they fumble through vulnerability, and the small, unspoken act...
