Summary

A girl hates getting misunderstood, Miss Winter Prett gets misunderstood. A lot actually. Her name is even a pun itself so there's that too. It's just that everything she does, whether she talks through the phone, with her male co-worker, or even saying or doing something, it gets misunderstood, a lot. A Short Story of Misunderstandings

“This is the Anything Company where we specialize in anything you need! Be it help, trouble, an error, or anything else! My name is Winter Prett how may I help you?”

“Um, yes, hello. I’m calling about a package I ordered from online. It promised me that it would send in five dog leashes, but instead it gave me four.”

“Don’t worry! We have extra dog leashes in the back! Come on over and we’ll give them to you!”

“WAIT WHAT DID YOU-, Okay you know what? I’ll go over there!”

“Bye!”

“Goodbye.”

The customer, who was an older woman, walked into the front of the company desk as I went to get a dog leash from the back.

My good friend, Reid, was at the counter.

“She’ll be right on over m’am!”

“I hope she doesn’t come over!” The older woman stated.

I walked on over to the counter. “Is there a probl-”

“I’ll tell you what my problem is! What kind of sick person offers up dog quiche?!” The older woman glared at me and Reid.

“M’am, you must’ve misunderstood what I was saying. I specifically said dog leash, not dog quiche.” I gave her the dog leash whilst explaining.

The woman snatched it away from my hands and just said nothing. She walked on over to the door and left.

I sighed. I swear, I’m always getting misunderstood.

“This is the Anything Company! My name is Winter Prett, how may I help you?”

“Did you say interpret?”

“No sir, I said Winter Prett. With a W. That’s my name.”

“Then spell it out.”

“UUGGGGGHH! Okay! W-I-N-T-E-R. P-R-E-T-T. That’s my name. Anywya, what do you need? We specialize with anything!”

“I need advice.”

“Okay, that’s quite-”

“Romantic advice.”

“Sir, I don’t think I can-”

“I’m sorry, I thought you guys specialized in anything. You are the Anything Company right?”

“Yep! We are! Please do come over and we’ll help you out!”

“Awesome! Thanks!”

“No problem.”

“Hi, I’m here for the romantic advice.” The guy came over to see Reid and I at the front desk.

“Sit over there and we’ll help you out!” Reid pointed over to the couch chairs behind the guy as he walked on over and sat down.

I went behind Reid, grabbed his hand, and walked on over the couch chairs. We both sat down.

“By the way are you two dating each other?” The guy asked.

“N-no! We are not dating at all.” I stated.

“We’re just good friends-”

The guy cut Reid off. “With benefits?”

“Ew, no. Anyway, who are you romantically interested in?” I asked.

“It’s this girl I met at a Starbucks the other day, she works there often so we hang out together. I really want to impress her. Any advice?” The guy looked at me, then at Reid to see if either of us can answer.

“Simple!” Reid stated. “Get her some nice flowers, like a small bouquet of flowers, not the large ones. Take her out on a date at said Starbucks she’s working at. Also, don’t use any cheesy pickup lines, rather, compliment her, use some cute and flirty compliments. Just don’t get sexual with it or else that’s a complete turnoff for her. Other than that, you’d be good to go. Also, make sure to dress in a nice, casual way for said girl. I know that you can do it!”

My mouth went agape. The guy went over and hugged Reid. He thanked the both of us, mostly Reid, as he walked on over to the front door of the building and closed it behind him.

“Close your mouth, you don’t want to catch bugs.” Reid stated as I quickly closed it.

“How did you...?”

“Winter, I have a girlfriend. We’ve been together for two years now, so I know about romance quite well.” Reid got up from the couch and started to walk on back over to the front desk. But then, he looked back at me.

“By the way, congrats! You didn’t get misunderstood that time!” He smiled.

He was right, I didn’t this time. It was then that I smiled right back at him.

“This is the Anything Company and we specialize in anything! How may we help you?”

“Um yes, I need help with some Christmas lights....”

“What seems to be the problem with them sir?”

“I need new ones since the ones I have were eaten by squirrels!”

“We’ll help you out!”

“Awesome! Thanks!”

“With getting new lights!”

“Wait, that’s not what I-”

*Winter Prett Has Hung Up*

“Alright!” I walked on over to the counter with Reid, my hands full of Christmas lights, as the man walked on over to the front desk.

“Here are your new Christmas lights!” Reid exclaimed quite happily.

“Is this some kind of joke?" The man stated.

Um, what?

“What do you mean sir?” I asked.

“I did ask for lights. Thanks, I’ll take them. But why in the hell would you get me tights?!” The man was quite frustrated.

“I said lights through the phone. You must’ve misunderstood me.” I stated.

“Well then, don’t ask me if I want to purchase a pair of tights again!” The man huffed as he grabbed the Christmas lights, walked on over to the door, and left.

I sighed.

“You must really hate being misunderstood.” Reid said as he rubbed my back.

“Yeah, no shit.” I was quite frustrated.

The other Calls and Meetups had more misunderstandings and awkwardness. Let me give you the rundown:

-4th Call & Meetup=A guy called into the Anything Company to have his clarinet reed fixed. By the time he came over, he thought that I said that he needed his weed fix.

-5th Call & Meetup=A girl liked throwing stones, she calls herself a stoner (don’t ask why), and she needed more stones so she can throw them. By the time we gave her the stones, she thought that on the phone, I said bones.

-6th Call & Meetup=I regret this one. Two girls wanted some jump rope so they could skip rope. I said skip rope on the phone, but when they got to the front desk, they thought I said, get this, STRIP ROPE.

-7th Call & Meetup=I also regret this one. Some boy needed some wine glasses so he can do some cool tipping tricks at a party. He called them tippers. I said tippers onto the phone, but when the boy came over, he thought I said strippers. He then wondered if there even were any strippers I could hire to come to the party he would be going to. I instantly declined the offer and said no. Reid took him out.

After all those awkward calls, the Manager, Terina, decided that Reid and I should take a break. So we did.

***

Reid and I walked on out of the company doors quite happily. We found a nice little coffee shop an hug out there.

Even after several minutes of us just drinking and talking, people came by the two of us and asked if we were a couple or dating. Anytime someone came and asked us, Reid stated that he’s dating someone and already has a girlfriend.

Great, now we were both being misunderstood by other people. Who knew that not only I was always getting misunderstood all the time, but Reid is as well...
