Chapter 1: Birds Before the Storm

As the people of Kalos went on with their usual business, snow started to fall. It was the middle of summer. Pretty much everyone thought the same thing: What is Articuno doing now? Then, lightning struck a few feet away from the largest crowd, a loud crack reverberating through the atmosphere. Thankfully, no one was hurt in the process. One man did end up peeing his pants from surprise, though.

When the people looked up, they saw a Zapdos and an Articuno fighting, sending bolts of lightning and shards of ice everywhere. Everyone ran for cover. They weren’t worried though; they knew Lugia would come and stop the two fighting birds. When Lugia did come, it only took a few minutes for Lugia to be defeated, tossed on the ground like a ragdoll.

Now the people were worried. Lugia, defeated in battle? That was bad. Really bad. Who was going to stop the two fighting birds? Just then, Rayquaza came from the clouds, diving at full speed. He slowed down, stopping nearby the dueling duo. Then, a loud roar, commanding as can be, sounded from the lithe dragon’s mouth.

Rayquaza normally only had to go stop fights between Kyogre and Groudon. Even those were rare now. Being summoned to stop a fight between two legendary birds? It had to be really bad if Lugia couldn’t handle it. Maybe, though, that stupid lazybutt was just faking it again to get out of his duties. Well, Rayquaza would find out soon enough.

When Rayquaza arrived at the scene, he knew Lugia wasn’t faking. He was in a fetal position, groaning in pain. Rayquaza thought: How do two legendary birds do this much damage to a Pokemon that had taken on three at once? He then heard what the quarreling birds were saying. “The egg is no good, just destroy it already!” “No, the egg is probably just slow in hatching!” Rayquaza recognized the voices and the birds. It was the Zapdos and Articuno that had begged Zygarde to let them be mates.

Zygarde was not the kind of Pokemon to easily accept cross-species pairings. Especially if it involved the Pokemon having offspring together. He was the Order Pokemon, and to him, everything had its place and duties. Anything that was out of order or didn’t make sense made him go a bit crazy, depending on how deviant it is. Carnivorous Pokemon trying berries? Just like a fly around the ears (Zygarde has no ears though; he is a snake most of the time). Herbivores sampling meat? Annoying as a papercut. (As I said before, he is a snake most of the time, so no hands ). Cross-species pairings? It depends. Something like an Electric type and an Ice type together will make him whine and throw a small fit. At least that was how it was with Zapdos and Articuno. If they had typings that were opposites, like Fire and Ice, or Dark and Fairy, Zygarde would throw such a fit that his little cave would be as messed up as the Distortion World.

So when the Zapdos and Articuno asked him to let them be mates, he at first refused. It took a little coaxing, but he eventually let them. Zygarde cautioned them, however, if they caused any destruction to any human settlements, they would be punished.

Now, Rayquaza thought, look at what they are doing! Fighting in a human settlement! He then yelled out, “Stop your fighting, you stupid barn fowl!” This was, to the humans watching, heard as a roar. The birds stopped their quarrel immediately. “Go to the top of the Pokemon Tower, and I will come and talk to you both!” Rayquaza then shouted. The birds complied.

Rayquaza went to check on Lugia. As he was flying to him, Rayquaza saw a male human hit another human that had light blue hair. The one struck fell to the ground, seemingly dead. Rayquaza had no concern if humans murdered each other, though. He was worried about Lugia.

When he reached Lugia, he was starting to rise. “Are you okay, Lugia?”asked Rayquaza. Lugia replied, “Yeah, bro, I’m fine. Finer than a Delkitty’s fur. You know, them two birds never noticed I was tryin’ to stop ’em!” Rayquaza looked shocked. “Really? They never noticed?” “Nope, my dragon friend. They never noticed.”

Lugia flew off. Rayquaza then went to the top of the Pokemon tower, where the legendary birds were supposed to be. They were gone.
