Chapter 1
The day after thanksgiving a gray anthro raccoon named Tim Wilde was driving South on Aniline Avenue in the Honda NSX patrol car that he typically shared with his partner and housemate Riley Brooks who is an anthro fox. However today Riley had called in sick. As Tim passed his neighbor’s house he saw a creepy snowman. Man I gotta talk to them about their kid’s snow man when I get home Tim thought to him self narrowly avoiding an accident as he crossed over the Lakewood boulevard. A few seconds later he heard what sounded like breaks locking up and looked into the rear view mirror just in time to see an accident. Tim the grabbed the mic to the police radio and said “This is unit 33 I have just witnessed an accident behind me at the intersection of Aniline Avenue and Lakewood boulevard. I need medical on scene. Possibly need the tech team as well.”
“Copy that I will also send three more units.” replied the desk Sargent who was an anthro lynx named Kendra Wilde. Kendra is also Tim’s step mom.
“This is unit 38 we are near by and will be there within a couple of minutes. To be exact we are at the intersection of James street and U.S. 31” said an anthro rabbit named Sapphire Sanders.
“Hey bro Katrina and I are three minutes out and en-rout.” replied Tim’s twin brother Matt Wilde
Tim stopped the patrol car and ran to a 2010 silver Ford Fusion that had a licence plate number that looked very familiar to him. That had better not be who I think it is. Tim thought to himself as he looked into the car. He broke the passenger side window because the roof was too dented to open the passenger side door. He noticed the driver was a female fox who was about his dad’s age. He opened the glove box and pulled out the car’s registration. He read the registration and saw that the car was registered to Riley’s mom. Crap how am I going to Riley and Rachael about their mom. Tim looked up after reading the registration to see Riley running towards the scene. Tim then walked over to Riley and asked her “Was your mom bringing you soup or something?”
“Yes both her homemade tomato soup and a box of saltine crackers.” Riley replied.
Tim Sighed and said “I hate to tell you this but that is your mom that was involved.” He then looked back at the scene and saw the ambulance arriving right behind Matt and Katrina. Tim then continued with “But she is still alive.”
“Can I see her please?” Riley asked.
“Not right now but I promise we can go to the hospital to see her when I get home. For right now though you need to go back home and sit in the warmth of the living room.” Tim replied as he wrapped his arm around her and walked her back inside the house. He then laid her down on the couch gently then covered her up to her neck with her favorite Christmas blanket.
Riley coughed then sighed and said “OK. I at least want to pray before you go back out there.”
Tim got down on the floor and said “I don’t have a problem with that.” The two of them prayed a quick sinners prayer then prayed for Riley’s mom. When he stood up Tim said “You know what I will make this promise to you even if we are on duty we will go visit your mom in the hospital.”
Riley watched as Tim left the room and yelled behind him “You know I’d love that.”
Tim got back to the scene of the accident he walked over to his sister and asked “I would like to know which hospital Riley’s mom is going to.”
“We are taking her to Holland Hospital. It is the closest and has the best doctors in this area for anthro animals like us.” Sandy replied as she helped one of her partners load Riley’s mom into the ambulance.
Tim then walked over to Matt and asked “Did you get either of their statements?”
“I got the blue Australian Shepherd’s statement. His name is Henry and he was driving the blue Chevy cargo van. He ran said he hadn’t noticed the light turn red because he was distracted by a snowman. I don’t believe that story though because none of the houses have snowmen in front of them.” Matt replied
“Where is he I need a description of that snowman.” Tim replied.
Matt pointed to the other side of the street and replied “I don’ know why you need it but he is over there.”
“There was one that looked demonic earlier next door but it is gone now. Probably there just to cause the accident.”
Tim walked over to the Australian Shepard and asked “Hey you told my brother over there about a snowman distracting you?”
“Yes it was really creepy kind of demonic. It looked like a regular snowman but looked angry and had carrots looking like fangs.” Henry replied looking at Tim upset.
“Well that snowman had almost caused me to crash a few seconds earlier so unlike my brother I believe you one hundred percent.” Tim replied
“Do you know anything about the fox I t-boned?” Henry asked looking a little more worried than he was a few seconds earlier.
“Well right now all I can say is she is my partners mom and as of right now she is alive but needs massive medical treatment. When I arrived she was passed out.” Tim replied frowning. He handed Henry back his ID and a ticket for distracted driving.
“Aw man hearing that she is related to a cop makes me feel so much worse.” Henry replied as a similar van showed up being driven by a human.
“Do you want one of our paramedics to check you out before you go?” Tim asked
“No it’s probably best if I just leave if you five cops are done talking.” Henry replied as he slowly got into the other van.

The morning of Christmas eve Tim woke up and went down stairs to have his breakfast. Riley was sitting quietly in the living room. She was so upset about her mom she didn’t even say anything when Tim walked downstairs. Tim looked at Riley and said “Let’s at least try to go visit your mom today. You know things always get worse before they get better.”
Riley just sighed and nodded in agreement. Before saying “I am ready when you are.”
“Well I have taken vacation for today and tomorrow so I don’t need to worry to much about having to ditch you.”
It took them about fifteen minutes to get to the hospital and into her mom’s room. “Good morning you two and Merry Christmas.” Said Riley’s mom
Riley hugged her mom and said “Merry Christmas to you too I hope you will start recovering soon.”
Riley’s mom pushed her away while pulling Tim closer. “No the doctors say that whatever happened in the minutes between the accident and you arriving on scene there’s not a lot of life left in me. Please take as good care as you can of my daughter, Riley.”
Tim frowned and said “I already do on our response calls so I do not see the problem off duty either.” Tim replied
“Good.” Riley’s mom said as she tried to sit up. She looked at Riley and said “I really hate to tell you this but telling you is a better way of finding out by a doctor telling you this but they say that this will be my last Christmas.”
Just then Rachael walked in and said “Really there has got to be something they can do to help you recover”
Riley said “No they apparently tried everything.”
Riley and Rachael gave there mom a group hug just as their mom took her last breath. The nearest nurse ran into the room and tried to defibrillate their mom with no success. Riley started to bawl when Tim walked up to her and wrapped his arms around her stomach. “I don’t want to go to your family’s Christmas Eve party tonight anymore. You can go by yourself though” Riley said.

A few hours later Tim was at Matt’s house with his sister his cousin, aunts, uncles, and dad. They all were getting ready to go caroling when Tim’s phone vibrated. He looked at it and it had a break in notification from the home’s security system. “Matt, Katrina, and Sandy we need to get back to my place now. There is an intruder.”
The four of them loaded up into Tim’s personal truck which was a silver Toyota Tundra. When the four of them got to Tim’s house he opened the center counsel of the truck and pulled out three hand guns. He handed one to Matt another to Katrina and kept the third for himself. The three of them entered leaving Sandy by the truck. Tim entered the living room and saw Riley laying on the couch and a human female standing next to the couch trying to pull the trigger of a pistol. “Hands in the air now!” Tim yelled the human refused Tim then tazed the woman just as an ambulance and a cop car showed up.
The cops who were two anthro rabbits handcuffed the human and said “You are under arrest for attempted murder of an anthro and cop.”
“Man you five just should have let her kill me. Other than my job I don’t feel like I have that much of a purpose in life” Riley said crying.
Tim pulled Matt and Katrina into the dining room and asked “So which one of you two want’s to stay here and help me keep an eye on Riley tonight?”
“I guess I will after all what are brothers for.” Matt replied as he sat down in Tim’s chair.
“OK we’ll take turns looking after her. I am going to go warm up some hot cocoa for us.” Tim said as he walked into the kitchen.
Matt Followed Tim into the kitchen and said “Well this kind of gives me an idea.”
“What’s your idea?” Tim said as he started to make the hot cocoa.
“This summer you, Riley, Katrina, and I should try to pool our money and move into the same house.” Matt replied as he started to look into Tim’s cupboards for some snacks
“Oh good idea this way when one of us is attacked on a vacation day again there is very little response time.” Tim replied pouring the homemade hot cocoa into three different mugs. “Oh and Riley is wrong about her not having a purpose anymore. I am attracted to her in a state that’s more then just friends and work partners.”
“Well how long have you had those feelings?” Matt asked sipping his cocoa.
“At least since senior year in high school.” Tim replied as he put Riley’s mug down on the coffee table
