Madeline woke up from her haze. The entire day was a blur for her. All she could remember was the lights changing. What were headlights a minute ago changed to hospital lights, the blaring ring of the car horn into the persistent beat on the monitor. She knew something was wrong, but she couldnโt bring herself to scream let alone speak. She could feel everything as they stood over her. The pace of the monitor quickened as she remembered, the panic in her soul awoke as she remembered. She remembered her love for the stranger she carried, the fear of bringing new life into an old world and now all she feels is the fear of losing her.
She channeled her energy...her lifeforce into the being she created. Madeline felt her power slip away from her the monitor slowed as the doctors hastened. Then there she was, the sky and all of her stars laid awake patiently waiting just for her. The natural tongue of her kind spoke into the universe that her death was a reward. As her mother cast her gaze on the marvel of fate her lips trembled and as her eyes glossed over, she repeated, โMors mihi lucrum.โ
As the newborn wailed as her lungs clung to the air her mother ceased to exist. It is within this exchange of life do we saw the end and birth of an era. For the child has great things to accomplish, as it is written in the stars.
