Eyes open,
ringing in my ears,
dead bodies all around me
yet none of that matters.
I’m alive, in some sense of the word.
The fire inside is dead,
no, flickering, a familiar feeling.
The flame won't go out,
no matter how hard they try
no matter how hard I try,
and try I have.
Considered a blessing to some, a curse to others
to exist in such a manner
depending on one thing,
