Chapter 1

Everything was dark. It was like I was floating in a dark abyss. Then I started hearing birds chirping and I could smell morning dew. I could feel myself moving and felt something damp under me.

I slowly woke up completely unaware of my surroundings. I looked around and noticed a field of grass and a running track. There were some benches on the trail and a few trees opposite of me. I looked down at my tattered clothes covered in blood and I started to panic. I quickly stood up when a soaring pain in jolted through my hip. A woman jogging stopped and noticed my condition. She took off her head phones:

"Are you alright darling?" She asked.

I shook my head and my vision started to blur.

"What's your name sweetie?"

I wanted to talk but my throat hurt. I tried clearing my throat but my voice was harsh and barely audible. "I-I dont know"

The ladies eyes widened and called someone. She tried to get me to follow her to the benches but with the first step the pain radiated through my body and I hit the ground. I caught myself with my hands but that just accentuated the pain.

I shook my head side to side. "Cant" was all I managed to say.

Her eyes dropped and sympathy was written all over.

"It's okay. They'll be here soon."

She handed me a water bottle she pulled out of the fanny pack around her waist.

"Here."

I gave her what I hoped was a smile, so she can understand my gratitude.

Once the bottle of water was gone I heard sirens heading towards us. There where four men in uniform. Two were in a navy blue uniform with a silver badge. The other two were in black and had large white writing on it that said 'Paramedics'.

"Hello." One of the men said kneeling in front of me.

I was apprehensive about responding but I didn't know why.

"H-Hi" the water helped but my throat still hurt.

"Can you tell me your name?" He asked.

I shook my head no. I started getting nervous and anxious. I looked around for the woman who had been so nice and helped me.

She was talking to the other man a little out of hearing range.

"Officer, we'd like to take a look at her." The man in black said.

He told me he would be back and joined his friend and the woman. He walked up to me cautiously and told me he was going to listen to my heart and check me out.

He took out this thing and put it in his ears and then on my chest. He told me to breathe in and out while he moved it around my front and back. He then flashed a light in my eyes and told me to follow it.

"I'm going to check your body is that okay?"

I panicked. Why did he want to check my body. I shook my head violently. I wanted to get away. I stood up just to fall back. The woman came running up to.

"Stop! You're making her nervous. I tried to get her to go with me to the benches but she fell when she tried to put weight on her right leg." She talked for me.

I smiled at her to thank her.

"We need to examine her."

"Maybe take her back to the hospital and have a woman do it." She added.

"Can we lift you on the gurney?" He asked.

His friend was bringing a bed on wheels through the field. They lifted me up and placed me into the ambulance. They closed the doors and I could see them talking through the window. They all nodded and went separate ways. I could feel the ambulance start to move. I watched the streets and cars through the window as we drove.

Why cant I remember anything?

It's like my brain is blank and there's absolutely nothing there. I cant even picture myself. I dont know what I look like. I dont know where I am. Nothing.

My heart rate started to go up as I panicked. The monitor started beeping and my breathing started to pick up. I was gasping for air as I brought my hand to my chest.

"Hey, I need you to breath shallow breaths. Breath in, count to five and then breath out slowly."

I could hear what he was saying and I wanted to listen but it was drowned out by the million thoughts running through my brain.

Then it went black.
