“Hyung, please cancel your plans with Yuna! I want to hang out tonight,” Yoongi’s younger brother, Jimin, begged him to stay with him. “Jimin, not tonight. Yuna and I have plans.”
“She always cancels and never even bothers to show up, why do you even try?”
“Because she’s my girlfriend, relationships have a lot of giving and taking.”
“It seems like a lot of her taking and no giving,” Jimin grumbled watching his brother grab a jacket and head out the door. “I’m sorry, bud, I swear we’ll go somewhere tomorrow,” and then Yoongi was no more.
“Mom! Where’s my topaz ring?”
“Why do you think I know, Chie! Be responsible,” Chie had already searched the entire house top to bottom. The ring was lost forever, along with another hundred things she’s lost in the past twenty-six years. “I’m going to see if it’s in the park! Love you mother!” And that was that. Chie was going to search that playground until she found at least one thing she owned, a lot of things had been left there anyway, it wasn’t going to be hard for her to find something.
She flipped the Japanese switch in her brain to Korean. Her mother had moved to South Korea with her daughter and nothing else. She also never bothered to learn the language, living off of little signals and Chie translating for her. It was a struggle for Chie, especially since she flowed between the language in conversations with others, confusing them beyond belief. But she still managed, it also helped her immensely, she could curse out her coworkers and teachers without anyone knowing what she was saying. But back to the park.
She saw little white flurries coming down on her hair and the path in front of her. “You’ve got to be kidding me. Snow? Right now?” She rolled her eyes and groaned, speeding up her pace to the park, hoping to get there before it turned into a winter wonderland.
“Yuna! You here, babe?” Yoongi asked for the hundredth time, hopelessly looking for his “love”. The snow in front of him covered the small playground he waited in front. He saw a young woman looking around. She was causing little flurries to fly about the equipment from her large and extra movements.
“This stupid ring is costing me warmth and sleep,” Chie grumbled, seeing frost in front of her breath. She moved some more snow before just gave up. She pushed some snow off of a swing and sat down. She heard a male voice call out for someone for the forty-third time, not that she had been counting them. She thought he had finally given up, but instead, he had just sat down in the swing next to her waiting for whoever to show up.
She felt his presence but ignored it. There was a slight vibration against the plastic of the swing coming from Chie’s right side. She saw the boy reach into his back pocket and read the notification. She saw his face morph into one of sadness. He slid the phone back to its original spot and stood up. Chie felt the need to say something to him. “I’m sorry that they didn’t show up. Enjoy the rest of your night, the snow is lovely,” she smiled at him as he turned around to see her. “Thanks. My girlfriend didn’t show,” Chie looked at the boy she didn’t know and saw the sadness in his eyes. “I”m sorry. The snow is beautiful though, don’t give upon tonight yet,” he smiled back at her and went away with the wind and snow.
“Who was right? Jimin was right,” Jimin danced around his and Yoongi’s apartment. “Shut up, I feel bad enough. This is the fourth time in a row,” Yoongi leaned back on the couch and checked his phone, looking at the text again.
"Sorry, Yoongs! Something came up, maybe another day," he read it again in Yuna’s voice. He didn’t hear any compassion though. It felt like the text she’d send a new coworker she was having lunch with, not a text to her boyfriend of almost two years. “Hey, at least you saw the snow tonight. It was just as pale as you,” Jimin poked fun at his older brother once again causing Yoongi to give him a glare. He thought about the girl, but soon shook off the thought and got back to why Yuna had left him alone once again.
“I’m just going to sleep, Jimin, see you in the morning.”
“Okay, Yoongi, sleep well.”
“Whatever,” Yoongi waved and went to his bedroom, once the sight of his bed came into view, rest was the only thing on his mind and he went right to sleep.
“Was your search successful?”
“No, I just saw a man get stood up by his girlfriend, but no ring,” Chie’s mother looked at her with compassion. “Not my girlfriend, I honestly couldn’t care less. I just told him to enjoy the night and move on,” Chie imagined herself harsher than she really was. She was more of a teddy bear with felt teeth than a grizzly bear biting into someone’s arm. Chie gave up on her lost ring, it only had been three dollars, she knew she’d lose it eventually. Instead, she focused on the large bowl of food in front of food. “Thank you, Mom!”
