Chapter 1
Cecely Green:
I was finishing up on my lab work. We were currently trying to figure out why so many humans were dying out.
Every week, there was at least one murder. But what was the purpose of it. Was there a serial killer on the lose like in the Halloween movies that haunt us all as young children?
Or was it some different species trying to show the variation of human kind that they were to rule over us?
That was the predicament ya scientists were put in, along with the pressure of humans around the world. Desperately, pressuring us so that their loved ones weren’t next.
Windows among the houses that were left were draped with boards, aimlessly covering windows. And doors with six locks on them, each of them carefully locked out of fear.
Fear for those who were already buried, fear for those who were lost to something that was truly so much bigger than we expected.
At first, I believed it was a serial killer but now I was thinking it had to be a creature of some sorts. A supernatural being went through my mind.
By every murder scene was tracks; paw prints of some sorts. But, they were not like regular paw prints.
They were bigger. They had large claws. They did not replicate anything of the local wolves and coyatoes. They were that of another creature.
Maybe the species I was looking for, maybe not. That was what I was here to find out. I was currently on an expedition with the other college seniors, that were trying to become forensic scientists.
We were mapping out the size of the paw prints and looking around to find any other piece that could fill our puzzle.
I looked up through my foggy glasses, to be met with a bush. The bush rattled and there was definitely something behind it.
Just as I was about to push the branches from the bushes back, to unmask the creature that was hidden within its branches, it bolted.
Looking beyond the bush, there were more foot tracks. But this time there was fresh scat.
I looked down stunned. Could this be the key to unleashing the secret? Was this creature somehow trying to help me?
I quickly shouted, with what was left with my voice “Guys I found something.”
In the flash of light, there were people all around me, looking with bags and wide eyes. They were just like me, letting the emotion of pride shine through.
Although most were showing feelings of pride, some were showing feelings of jealousy. Jealousy because instead of this discovery being made by them, it was made by a college senior.
Made by a college senior who had no family that was relying on them for a house and food. Basic necessities and safety.
Safety from the creature that I had just basically discovered. The sun was setting over the horizon by the time everyone was finished.
The pile of scat had been removed, and was sent to other faculty members to discover what creature it could have came out of.
We all waited in meek happiness, hoping that we could be humanities savior.
Could we find out the secret just because of a little college senior’s mindless discovery from a bush?
