Chapter 1: Evermore

The jobs were simple.

We were used to it all,

Easy enough...

We never failed on the field.

But, outside of that?

Our story?

It doesn’t exist.

SPAIN

WEDNESDAY

23:00PM

Tapping the side of my headset, I contact my team. “I’ve got the target on lock. Viper, Wolfe, engage.”

“You got it, chief!” Wolfe’s excitement.

“Roger.” Viper’s cool tone.

One eye closed, my right hand on the trigger of my Zastava M76. I watch from the mountains, opposite the compound. Two shadows enter the dimly lit room, securing the target. Taking out all the goons within the room beforehand, I hear their grunts of pain.

"Hex, on standby.”

“Copy that!” Her chirpy tone, over the com-link. Higher than that of a child at times.

I wait.

"One, we’ve got him.”

“Good. A helicopter is arriving, board him.”

I can hear Viper relaying my orders, back to Wolfe. Our target thanking them profusely for saving him, Wolfe eats up the praise. Viper hushes them both.

“Remember, Silence. We don’t want to alert them, of our presence just yet.”

“You think I’m Viper, just by name?” I can almost picture the smirk, she must have right about now. She’s as silent and deadly as they come, her name didn’t come without merit.

*Hmph* “I trust you can handle it then.” There’s no real bite to my tone. She’s known me long enough to tell, anyone otherwise would have been offended. But, not her.

Not, my team.

“Always, I’ll just gag Wolfe in the meantime.” I chuckle, it’s more of a deep rumble in my chest; inaudible, but there.

I see another silhouette enter the room.

One I’m very familiar with...

“Our pick-ups here. Viper, out.” I hear the faint fondness in her tone, before she signs off.

Playtime’s over.

"Ghost, Viper and Wolfe are out. Send them the helicopter’s co-ordinates.”

“Hmm...” His usual lazy response.

“On my count, fry the servers, I want all systems down.”

“Got it. Just glad, I’m not the one being shot at.” I hear a faint chuckle in the background, silence once more.

“Ready?” I turn to my right, staring her right in the eye.

That owe so familiar silhouette...that I saw just moments ago.

Four kilometers away...

Nova.

“Yeah.”

“Then, let’s go.” Her light brown eyes, seem to sparkle in the moonlight, one shining a little brighter than the other. She holds a hand out, concentrating....The air starts to ripple and distort. As she bends time and space, the once empty space...a white hole takes it’s place.

I’m the first to step through, “ladies first” doesn’t exactly apply in our line of work. I need to see the dangers before she does, I need to assess the situation, I need to ensure her safety...always.

No longer are we standing on the mountainous side of the compound...now, we’re inside.

I contact Hex, using my headset once again.

“Hex, we’re in. On my count, cover the upper floors.”

“On it!”

After the quick call. I turn, giving out orders.

“Nova, middle ground. I’ll take the lower floors.”

“Got it.”

......…......………...…...……………...…...…......…….

“Ghost...now"

All at once, the lights turn off. All machinery within the compound is shut down. I sprint forwards, Nova in the opposite direction.

“What the hell happened to the damn ligh-”

*SNAP*

He doesn’t finish his sentence.

“The air conditioning is of-”

*BAM*

Broken teeth...now shoved down his throat

*ARG-*

I karate chop him in the throat, causing him to swallow. Then punching him in the face, breaking his nose.

Heavy footsteps of troops up ahead....seven of them.

“There he is!”

They can see me.

So they have night vision googles, fine.

Unlike them, I have no need for their gadgets.

They open fire, I use the bodies of their dead comrades as cover. I fire back with perfect precision.

*BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG,*

“ARGH!”

1

“AHH”

2

“MOVE FORWARD, DAMNIT!”

I heave the dead bodies up, throwing them at the assailants as they move in.

“ARGH!”

They all fall backwards, I shoot the remaining 5 in the mid-section. Before their heads meet the hard wood floors. A sickening *CRACK* can be heard....I hear no heart beats. Moving forward, I step over their dead bodies. No unnecessary blood to track my movement.

Next Scene

I look around the room, 6 dead bodies lay at my feet. One floor down, another to go. I stop, crying...sobs and wails...a sharp “shut up” followed by a hard slap, laughter. I narrow my eyes...300 metres away. I move, altering my weight. I make myself lighter than ever, I move fast, silently, desperately. “Please, stop!” I arrive in mere seconds, Busting the door down with my heavy combat boot.

I tap the side of my headset, visor gone. I can see clearly...

The scene before me is sickening...

A man lays on top of a young woman, no more than 15-years old. Belt, unbuckled, His pants around his ankles. The only light, being that of an old oil lamp, illuminating the horror and fear in her eyes. Two other men stand in the corners of the dimly lit room, watching with delight. Pointing guns at the other young women, tear streaked cheeks, swollen eyes.

I see...they were to to be silent, not to interfere...to wait their “turn”.

My mind goes blank, with rage.

I’m gonna enjoy this.
