Mind Over Matter

Shes constantly fighting an unseen battle
a battle of mind over matter, mentality over morality
The voices she fights clash with the only string of hope she has left
causing a numb empty feeling of despair
A feeling of being pushed down
Down a hill, so much effort was put into climbing
no amount of tears can measure to the blood shes shed
She needs somebody to hold her tight to tell her everything will be alright
and when her self esteem bails I hope and pray to God...that I don’t fail
An all to real fear lingers over her head
The fear of being pulled into a room where everything is dull and dead
depression...
An inescapable grip of pain and despair Leading to what feels like an inevitable death
Her strength is unbelievable, fighting the same evil every single night
and in the morning her tears, remain quiet and out of sight
Like nothing happened
the only visible thing is her messy brown hair and a fake smile
She listens to her 14-year-old daughter babble on and on
but she listens with intensity as if nothing existed around her
it’s just her and her daughter
She listens as if it were the only thing silencing the whispers of evil
shes a mother, a sister, she’s an angel in disguise
So on that dreaded night, I will look her in her pain-filled eyes
The small jewels matched by her soft pink tear-stained cheeks
and I will beg her to fight
Beg her to put the gun down from her fragile head
before she creates shiny shallow pools of deep dark red
She will continue to fight, fight this demon known only as depression
She will continue to fight for me, her family but most importantly for herself
So I’ll tell her what really is true
Mom, we love you
