A Somewhat Fresh Start
“Finally,” Olivia sighed setting down a large box onto the floor. “The last box!”
“You’re officially moved in!” Her mother squealed, hugging her daughter. “I’m so proud of you!”
“I’d be more proud if she was in a college dorm,” her father mumbled, turning away from the pair. Olivia rolled her eyes before giving her dad a hug, his eyes glued to the floor as he gave her gentle pats on the back.
“Dinner, pumpkin?”
“Nah, I’d like to get unpacked. I want to be able to fully start fresh tomorrow when I go job hunting-”
“Oh, she’s getting a job finally,” her father grumbled once more, folding his arms across his chest. Olivia shrugged off the comment before turning back to her mother. “Thank you, thank you, thank you for helping me move in! I’ll take dinner another night.”
“Alright, pumpkin. Be safe,” her mother smiled before giving her another hug. Olivia smiled, rubbing her mother’s back before waving the pair out the door. She closed the door, locking the dead bolt and handle before turning back to the mess of her apartment.
“Brush it off, Liv. Just brush it off,” Olivia sighed as she wiped her brow. She grabbed a box from the empty living room and dragged it into her new bedroom before she cut the box open.

Coffee beans churned in the pot as Olivia got dressed for the day, her cell phone in one hand scouring the internet for open job positions while the other buttoned her tight skinny jeans. She threw on a lilac knitted sweater, running into the kitchen and grabbing a mug from the box on the counter before pouring coffee into the mug. Smelling the aroma, Olivia sighed as she took a sip from the mug. Gleefully, she stacked mugs and dishes into the cabinets before moving onto the next section of the apartment. Olivia wiped her brow before placing her hands on her hips as she looked around her orderly apartment.
“Yes, now that this is done,” Olivia paused as she glanced at the tv she had yet to set up. She ran over to her bean bag chair, plopping down before grabbing the cord from the tv and plugging it into the outlet. She plugged in numerous wires into the blank screen and the outlet before at long last grabbing the remote and flicking the tv on. With a sudden blip, the connection held and she began to flip through channels.
“Hey bitch,” Olivia giggled as she answered the phone.
“Sup, can I come over or is your boyfriend there?”
“Fuck off, Kylee, you know Damon and I are done-zo.”
“I’m just playing, Liv, I’ll be there in ten.” The girl giggled before hanging up. Olivia shook her head before burying the phone into the bean bag. A few moments later, knocks struck her door. Olivia smiled as she ran to the door, wiping it open to a small brunette.
“Sup bitch,” Kylee smiled as the two hugged. Olivia closed the door behind her before she pulled out another bean bag from the closet and dragged it in front of the tv.
“You still have these things?”
“Have since middle school. No point in throwing them out if there isn’t anything wrong with them,” Olivia replied as Kylee rolled her eyes. “Still texting dudes?”
“Hell yeah, they’re hot. You should try it,” Kylee smirked before showing Olivia.
“He is cute-”
“Well, that one is mine. Going to be mine if he doesn’t fuck it up,” Kylee bit her lip before setting her phone down in the bean bag. “Come on, let me help you set it up.”
“Set what up?”
“Your profile!”
Olivia raised her eyebrows as Kylee pulled out the puppy dog face. “Oh no-”
“Why not?” Kylee whined, throwing herself back in the bean bag. “You need to get back out there. Damon moved on-”
“Well I haven’t!” Olivia snapped. Kylee was taken aback before turning away from Olivia. “Ky, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean....how can I make it up to you?”
“You can make it up to me by making a Tinder profile!” Kylee beamed as she scooted the bean bag chair closer to Olivia. Olivia rolled her eyes as she plugged herself into the apps store on her phone. Kylee giggled as she snatched Olivia’s phone from her hands.
“Damn girl, you can get freaky with your photos!”
“Those are private! That’s when,” Olivia paused. “Oh never-mind please don’t use one of those!”
“Relax, I’m not that mean,” Kylee winked before tapping away at the screen. “Done and done! Who’s the best bff ever?”
“You are,” Olivia groaned as she took the phone back from Kylee. She glanced at the profile, instantly rereading her biography. “Awe, Ky! That’s so sweet of you to say about me!”
“Not a prob, sis.” Kylee winked as she grabbed the cookies from the top shelf. “Now start swiping right! We need to cast a very wide net here!”
“Copy that,” Olivia giggled as she began checking out profiles. “Oooooh, he’s very cute.”
“Who did you find?”
“Jay Grisham.”
