This Girl I Know
There's this girl I know.
She loves to laugh and write
And play in the snow.
The sound of music
Awakens her spirit,
Causes joy to swell in her chest,
As she sways to the beat,
Humming off key,
Her throat buzzing like bees
With no rest.
She likes loose fitting dresses,
And sometimes prefers slippers to shoes.
It depends on her mood.
She likes the sweet scent of coca,
And the bitter aroma
Of roasted coffee beans, too.
Her heart beats for the ones she loves,
The ones that she's terrified to lose.
She craves control
And fears helplessness.
She drowns in the anxiety and paralysing fear/
That one day, her loved ones may not be there./
From that, she knows she will never recover./
And I do fear for this girl,
For what she might become,
What she may or may not achieve,
Because at the end of the day,
When I look in the mirror,
I know that that girl is me.
