Summary

"You're obliged to sleep with me." When Sterling said that I was three seconds away from slapping that smirk of his face, but seeing as we were surrounded by people, I decided not to. "I'm obliged to no such thing." I turned to leave with my champagne glass in my hand when his palm closed around my elbow halting me. To everyone else we must seem like a cute couple talking. But the grip and the glint in his eyes said the complete opposite. "That ring on your finger says otherwise, darling. Chapter 1

I earned the money.

He spent it.

“Stop that?” his groggy voice groaned as he rolled around in his bed, a queen bed which was a waste of money for just one person.

I grabbed the sheets and tugged them down, making his sit up in bed. I could hear his mumbling in the background as I started to open the shutters, he was complaining that the light was hurting him.

“How can you be such a bitch so early in the morning.” he grumbled.

A bitch? Me?Never.

Crossing my arms over my chest I turned around staring at the man in the bed wondering if there was a way to murder him and not get arrested. Perhaps I can puncture his lungs and drop him in the middle of the ocean, that way he was going to sink.

Or maybe I can make it seem like an accident.

His grey eyes narrowed as I continued to stare at him, I was used to the look he was giving me now. His cheeks were a slight pink flush, probably from having the heating on all night, again, wasting my money.

“I hardly call one p.m the morning” I said, narrowing my own light hazel eyes to match the steel look he was giving me. Sterling groaned his head disappearing into the pillow as he tugged the blanket back up.

I did not sign up to raise this man child.

Well....you sort of did said my conscience.

“Where were you last night?” I asked, trying to tug the blanket off, except this time he had a strong from.

If Sterling thought he was an expert at sneaking in, he wasn’t. I wouldn’t call him slamming doors, knocking photo frames off the wall and breaking a case exactly ‘sneaking in’.

Suddenly he sat up, his face only inches from mine as hot breathe fanned over my face. I wrinkled my nose at the smell of alcohol,he didn’t brush his teeth before bed.

“Why do you care?” and there was that half hearted smirk I wanted to cut off with a blade.

“I don’t.” I replied taking a step back from his stinky breathe “Our parents came home last night and I had to make up an excuse for you.” I always had to make an excuse for him.

Sterling “tsk”ed me, as he sat up and the covers slipped down his barely dressed body, “Did the great Aedan lie? Oh dear, I guess I’m rubbing off on you.”

I gave him a disgusted look, no Aedan, don’t get angry, lower your blood pressure, no don’t stab him with the letter opener on the desk. As tempting as the letter opener looked.

I don’t lie, I told them he was out with people, which he probably was.

“Why did you send six hundred dollars last night at Lui Bar?” I asked.

Rubbing his eyes he sat further up, “Ahhh....So you did know where I was.”

“You didn’t answer my question.” I stated, six hundred dollars in a bar, who did he think he was?

Unlike him ,I was at the office still working on an important project and doing some internet banking and found that over six hundred was missing from my account this morning, and I would like to say it was a shared account, but it was all my money. Not a cent from him.

His grey eyes regarded me, going from the top to the bottom, and he knew I hated it when he looked at me that way, “The boys got carried away last night. It’s no big deal, it’s not like you’re poor or something.” he said as he stood up. His pyjama pants were low on his hips, and his torso was slightly glistening with sweat, probably from the heating that he wasn’t going to paying for.

I clenched my teeth, tightening my crossed arms from lashing out and screaming.Just breath. If you show him how angry you are, he will make it worse, it was like he got off on how angry he made me, that little smirk was just as irritating.

“A night out for a few drinks shouldn’t cost more than thirty dollars.” I pointed out.

“Honey, do you know how much a bottle of scotch costs?” he retorted arching an eyebrow that was so annoying I was tempted to pluck it out, one by one.

I gritted my teeth as I tried not to get angry. It was the same story every time. It wasn’t like Sterling went and spent six hundred dollars every now and then. It was almost a weekly occurrence. don’t care.

“Why don’t you get a job so you can spend your own damn money.” I muttered.

Sterling took a step towards me, and I took another back, my back leaning against the window seal trying to put as much distance between us. Sterling smiled as he looked down at me.

He reached over, tucking a strand behind my ear. I slapped his hand away.

“Because honey, one of us needs to take care of the other.” he spoke softly.

I could snap that wrist in half.

Why did he like putting on a show of a ‘caring doting husband’ even when we were alone, because we both knew what happened between closed and open doors was completely different.

Bloody neanderthal. He turned around walking to his walk in wardrobe.

I could hear the shuffling of clothes and zips, “For someone who wants to live separate lives, you sure like to stuff your nose into mine, alot.” he said as he threw on a shirt and turned around.

“That’s because you’re using my money, stop using my money. Make your own money, stop spending it on shit. Really, three hundred on a new shirt? Why would you need a shirt, you have a million in that closet.” I snapped pointing to the walk in wardrobe that was bigger than mine, “And you don’t need designer sunglasses, wear one of the ten pairs you already have!”

Sterling raised an eyebrow and instead of answering me he turned around walking out the door and I stared at his retreating figure. I was losing money right now, I should have stayed at work, not rushed home to whip his arse, because we all knew Sterling would never learn his lesson. But I was furious.

Who spent two hundred and thirty three dollars on caviar, why were they eating caviar last night. He basically spent a fortune on bloody fish eggs. I earned the money so we could invest it, do something useful with it, not spend it on fucking fish eggs.

I stormed after him downstairs passing the mess he made last night pausing to pluck the tie hanging from what was left of the broken vase, disgusting brute.

“Oh Emilia, you are the love of my life.” I threw the tie in his plate of pancakes that our housekeeper Emilia made and he looked up, “Do you mind, I was...eating that.” he plucked the tie putting it aside him on the marble bench and shifting on the bar seat.

“Emilia what did I tell you about feeding this animal?” I asked her.

Sterling scoffed, “Says the woman depriving her husband of nutritional food.”

I clenched my jaw, narrowing my eyes as I leaned towards him, “You are not my husband. Don’tever say that again. I slapped a white envelope on the table, “You have a job interview at three today, wear a suit, and rock up, and hide that stupid tattoo.”

With a mouthful of pancakes he grabbed the envelope turning it in his hands reading the company name and looked at me, “No one can see this tattoo through the shirt.” he pointed out, honey all over his lips. He was still hungover.

No shit sherlock, that’s only for people who actually button their shirts not someone like you who leaves it all unbuttoned.

“Just do it.” I said getting irritated.

“And what if I don’t go to this...stupid interview.” he said, enjoying the way he was pushing my buttons.

I spun around grabbing my keys from the table, I needed to get out of here.

“Don’t come to this house tonight.” I said, because I was going to lock all the doors and set the security alarm and double lock all the windows as well. It was time this so called “husband” did his share of the housework, and earning money. Not spend it on alcohol and strip clubs, not to mention upgrades to that stupid bike he had.

Slamming the door behind me I walked down to my second hand car pulling at the worn door till it opened and got in. God I was three seconds away from running Sterling over with this car. Why did he like to infuriate me? He knew I was going to get angry if he spent $600 on bloody alcohol and fish eggs. We had this conversation many times.

If you want to spend money like that, make your own. No, it wasn’t him I should be yelling at, it was my stupid parents who forced me to marry him, without even proper consent. And it was I who should have known better than to have let myself get in this situation. Maybe I should kick him out and change the locks.

Starting my engine I drove onto the road, he was going to see the worst side of me tonight if he screwed up another job interview.
