Chapter 1
It was just another night in Gotham. Catwoman was in the middle of a jewel heist, and while the Caped Crusader was on her trail, this night was bound for an unexpected twist.
As she silently navigated through the security lasers, she expertly cut a circle in the glass case. “Come to me, my precious,” she whispered, reaching inside to grab a dazzling diamond. That was when she felt his presence.
“Took you long enough, Bats,” she teased.
“Hello, Selina. Hard at work, I see?” Batman replied, emerging from the shadows.
“You know I can’t resist something this beautiful,” she said, holding the diamond close.
“Neither can I,” he muttered quietly. “But Selina, I can’t let you walk away with that diamond. What if I offered you something even better?”
“Really? The Dark Knight is trying to bribe a thief?” With the lasers switched off, Catwoman glided towards the brooding figure.
“Meet me on the roof, and you’ll find out,” he said, before vanishing into the night.
Selina initially found the situation puzzling, but her curiosity got the better of her. After he left, she discreetly tucked the diamond into her pocket and made her way to the roof. Once there, she stood alone beneath the vast night sky, starting to wonder if this was just another one of his elaborate pranks. Suddenly, a sound stirred behind her. Turning around, she was taken aback to see her admirer on one knee. He reached into his pocket and revealed a small black box. Inside lay a stunning cat’s eye gemstone wedding ring. Shock washed over her, but as she took in the sight, a genuine smile broke across her face.
“Yes…” she replied breathlessly, immediately discarding the other diamond. Extending her hand, she felt Batman slip the ring onto her finger with ease. He then pulled her into an embrace under the moonlit sky and kissed her gently. Catwoman wrapped her arms around his neck, drawing him close, and after the kiss, she nestled into his chest with a contented sigh.
This was the beginning of something new.
At Gotham General Hospital, nine months later, Bruce paced anxiously in the waiting room. Moments later, a nurse stepped out and signaled for him to come in. Inside, he found Selina, weary but glowing in her hospital bed, cradling their newborn baby. As Bruce entered, Selina looked up at him with a tender smile.
“She’s got your eyes,” she remarked softly.
“And she has your smile, which I adore. So, what shall we name her?” Bruce asked warmly.
“I was thinking of Helena,” Selina replied, gazing lovingly at their daughter.
“Helena is a beautiful choice.” At that moment, the baby began to stir, her green eyes fluttering open — just like her mother’s. Helena let out an adorable yawn and cooed softly. Spotting Bruce, she instinctively reached out for him. Gently, Selina handed their daughter over, and Bruce cradled the tiny miracle in his arms.
“She truly is precious,” Bruce said, his heart swelling with love.
“She is,” Selina said softly. Helena gurgled, making a few adorable baby sounds as she wrapped her tiny fingers around his. After a few hours, they were finally able to leave the hospital. Once they arrived back at Wayne Manor, Bruce and Selina were met by Alfred Pennyworth, who was holding a phone with a serious expression. He informed Master Bruce that it was urgent. Taking the phone, Bruce and Selina made their way inside.
“What could it possibly be this time?” Selina asked, cradling Helena closely. As Bruce answered the call, his face turned pale. It was rare for the Dark Knight to show any sign of fear in front of others; usually, he inspired it in those around him. However, there were only a few things that could truly frighten him, and this was one of them. After hanging up, he turned to Selina, his expression grave.
“It’s Clark. Darkseid is invading Earth.” The shocking news took Alfred aback. Selina felt a wave of fear wash over her—not just for the planet, but also for her daughter.
“What are we going to do?” Bruce swiftly made his way to the hidden staircase, removing his tie and black jacket along the way.
“I have to go. Alfred, please call Grayson, Zatanna, and Constantine, and have them come to the mansion immediately,” he instructed in his familiar gruff tone.
“Right away, Master Wayne,” Pennyworth replied.
As Bruce descended into the Bat Cave, Selina grappled with her urge to help. She knew she had to stay behind and focus on keeping her daughter safe.
