Chapter 1

PREFACE

It is an ability shared by thousands. The total amount of possessors is unknown, but what is known is that it keeps increasing day by day, and day by day the world becomes more aware of its existence. It starts with simple telekinesis, the ability to move objects with your mind. All with the power discovered it would later come with the capability of creating vibrant illusions of natural elements, such as fire, water, electricity and so on. Coupled with the manifestation of these illusions, telekinesis has been dubbed ‘super-telekinesis’ by many. Other known abilities attributed to super-telekinesis include the emanation of colored light from the eyes, manipulating and erasing memory, and enticing a state of sleep upon others.

The power being exceedingly contagious, using its mind forces and illusions on another results in that person acquiring the power themselves. Succumbing to the force of a telekinetic illusion can be highly unpleasant, though in reality would not create any physical harm. Damage caused by the illusion ends up being a false impression itself, one that can be terminated within seconds. With this, telekinetic illusions have been labeled as physically safe by the increasing possessor community. So far, this is all that’s known about super-telekinesis, and most possessors are adamantly keen on the discovery of additional attributes to this remarkable capability that dwells within the human mind and soul.

The blue Dodge Intrepid sped down Interstate 696 at around 2:30 a.m.

“Get off here.” Nick pointed as Exit 25 approached.

Joe turned down the car stereo and flashed his turn signal. “Lead the way for me because I don’t know this area very well.”

“Don’t worry, I told you it’s not too far from the Interstate.”

The car merged onto the exit.

“How many times have you been to this place?” Asked Joe.

“None.” Nick replied. “I’ve only seen it.”

“Oh, great.”

“Relax, Joe, it’s a good spot. We won’t be seen.”

“Hope you’re right.”

“Turn down this street.”

The Intrepid made a right onto Michigan County Road. Three or four miles later, the brothers came upon the deserted parking lot of an old warehouse. Nick instructed Joe to pull in, and park at the end where it was dark and the car could be concealed somewhat.

“This is it?” Joe asked.

“No, this is just where we park.”

The two stepped out of the vehicle.

“Then what do we do from here?”

“We fly the rest of the way, of course.” Nick smiled.

He unzipped his jacket and exposed a black, easy fit top that displayed a symbol of green fire on the chest. Joe did the same, revealing a diamond shape with four purple icicles as his symbol of ice. The entire superhero-like suits were ones Joe had personally made for themselves, and ones they wore on occasions like this. The suits were all black except for the symbols up front, and also came with a face mask that obscured everything but the eyes, so they couldn’t be identified facially. Black gloves and boots were also included. Both slipped the masks over their heads and adjusted them to comfort. The two highly resembled ninjas, or perhaps sly bank robbers.

“I’m right behind you.” Said Joe.

Nick nodded, closed his eyes, and then reopened them to a bright green shine. Joe’s eyes quickly lit purple, and the two jumped high, leaving the ground and ascending into the night sky for a destination a few miles across the landscape. High above, the two masked figures glided like soaring ravens through the cool, black atmosphere. Below, a maze of roads passed under, visible by their many streetlights. Most were deserted at this late hour.

“There it is!” Emerald-Blaze called to his brother. “See it?”

Violet-Freeze gazed ahead, but darkness consumed most of the terrain below. He couldn’t see their aim.

“Follow me.” Instructed Blaze as he shot ahead.

His brother obeyed.

“We’re right above it. Let’s go.”

Emerald-Blaze changed from a horizontal glide to a vertical stance and began to gently descend to the dark ground below. What looked like a crater of old car tires became more and more visible the lower they came. The two passed the threshold of the wide ring of rubber and made a landing dead center. Violet-Freeze gazed around the dark, open area.

“The tire yard?” He asked.

“Isn’t it great?”

“Kind of dark.”

Emerald-Blaze shot two fireballs, one from his left hand, and the other from his right, which created separate bonfires on adjacent sides of the massive circle. Green light illuminated their surroundings.

“That’s better.” Said Violet-Freeze as he continued to look around.

“This place is usually deserted this late at night, so I figured it would be a good site for practice.”

“You’re right. The tires create a perfect concealing wall. Nobody would be able to see us.”

“There are not a lot of people who live around the tire yard to begin with.”

“Good point.”

“So... shall we?”

Violet-Freeze grinned and nodded. “Let’s dance.”

On that note, Emerald-Blaze swiftly hurled a wall of flames towards his brother. Violet-Freeze leaped into the air as the searing conflagration passed under him. He made his shot while arching over his kin challenger, blasting a stinging mist of purple frost, almost like a mega fire extinguisher. Emerald-Blaze tried to stop the cold with his contrary illusion, and the fire and ice collided between the two. Violet-Freeze made way over his brother and ceased his power when he realized Blaze was struck in the head with the cold force. He landed and stared with bright purple eyes. Emerald-Blaze wiped his masked face of the frost as best he could, then glared.

“One to nothing.” Smiled Freeze.

Leah: The character writing in this is lovely. Everyone feels rich and well fleshed out, even when introduced for only a moment. Obsidian: He's hilarious. Like, actually. I loved it. You're writing style is great, although you could do with a few less murmurs and mutters. I know it sounds critical, but I have the same problem and I hate it. Overall, it was one of the best stories I've read on here so far. I liked it better than those M...
