Prologue

The days ticked by after the first reporter spoke. The world had little care though, only ever thinking, it won’t come here. That’s how it always starts, every time. The first reporter told the world;

“A chain reaction has been set off yesterday, Mount Katla blew her top followed by others. Krakatoea, Merapi, Cumbre Vieja... This just in Mount St. Helens has begun erupting. People in Washington are being urged to move away as quickly as possible.”

Then another reporter went live;

“The coastal cities are being havocked as we speak. Tidal waves and hurricanes reaching categories four and five.”

Still more and more reporters urged people to move and find safety. More news came about the world came;

“The coast is not the only part of our countries in danger. Tornadoes and earthquakes are easily ripping through the continents. Tornadoes as bad as f-threes and f-fours are picking things up and throwing them. Earthquakes between magnitude levels of six and eight are being felt across the world.”

If we thought we could salvage anything, we learned how wrong we were;

“Tsunamis are destroying the coast with strengths as low as damaging and as great as completely devastating. Floods are covering much of the coast line.”

Still more devastation was to come;

“Avalanches are falling from almost every mountain in the world.”

“There is no water, severe and devastating droughts.”

“ Fire fighters are doing their best to fight fires across the world.”

It became confusing, one reporter said, but another said;

“Stay in your homes.”

“Seek higher ground”

“Do not travel.”

“Leave immediately.”

Then the death tolls,”

“100,000 deaths.”

“200,000,000 deaths.”

“It is estimated five percent of the world has perished.”

Sam’s parents got a letter, they wouldn’t tell her what it said. They packed a small bag and got in the car. They said they needed to get groceries before the mobs returned again.

“If you and your family received a letter from the government, proceed in land and follow all instructions.”

They didn’t come back. She knew why.

“This is ninety percent of the population. Here they are gathered to be sorted into different rockets. They are leaving to colonize other planets. Good luck to you all.”

They left her, with all the rich people and the people without kids. She read the letter, it said only two people from their house could go. Instead of choosing one parent and their child, they chose themselves. Sam sat and continued watching the reporters. Days ticked by without her.

“Good bye, and good luck to those who couldn’t make it.”

The reporters all clicked off and went up in their rockets. They left so many people behind. How could they do such a thing? It didn’t matter, now the world is broken and she’s alone.

Sam stood up and grabbed some stuff, now, she had to survive.
