Short Story
The still night created an eerie atmosphere over the large open area, with the moon creating a natural spotlight into the middle of the opening of a forest that was used as an arena, the rules were simply one team against the other in a test of strength where the last to stand wins. A tall man in his adolescence stood confidently with two clenched fists and a stern expression that showed he knew what large battle lied ahead for him but there was no possibility for him to lose. The silence was broken by the footsteps of two combatants entering the arena from the shroud of trees opposite him. One was a woman wearing a jeans and a white blouse; her red hair resembled a crimson ruby, fierce and strong; while the other was a man in a jeans and a black vest. The man was exceedingly tall with dark brown hair. The man and women stood opposite the young man and exchanged no words but simply a smirk and chuckle coming from the couple. The women on the left took a dash forward and a large leap into the air, her red hair that resembled ruby had shone brighter to a point where the pure red of a flame was the only resemblance able to come to mind. Her body stretched and grew. It began taking on the color red and her clothes ripped; she grew five times her size into a dragon covered in scales. With spread out wings and with one slam to the ground by the tail behind her she took off to the air. Quickly following the sudden transformation was the man who stood beside her who also began growing. His skin turned black while his arms grew into wings, he himself was large but not as tall as the colossal dragon that towered over the brave man from the sky. The growing man became a monstrous bat covered in jet black fur and flew up in haste, the man was left alone on the ground and he himself transformed, he launched into the air growing in size but unlike the morphing change the couple went through he surrounded himself in a ball of blue flames that grew along with him. Two large bat wings spread out clearing the flames away whilst letting out an echoing scream that shook trees. The result of the transformation was a large bat like beast covered in black scales across its wings and body and hair like fur on the head, the hybrid beast’s size rivaled that of the regular beast bat. The dragon pushed out a wave of flames towards the hybrid but hit the ground and nothing else; the hybrid was able to quickly dash off to cover and began perusing the bat, their aerial chase was abruptly ended by the dragon swinging her tail into the hybrid. The impact sent him flying back into the ground, where he kept finding himself while fighting those two, she pumped out another barrage of flames to the ground to finish him off but he took her head on. He rushed into her flames expelling out his own, the clash of blue and red flames ultimately collided into a product of pure power that blew both sides back leaving purple embers scattered across the scorched field. The hybrid quickly regained his senses and flew to sky to attack the dragon while she was taken aback. She free fell down, a perfect situation for the hybrid to launch his attack and take her out but a blur flew into him stunning his senses briefly causing him to panic. The blur returned to the darkness of the forest and after a little time it returned to fly into him once more. The hybrid struggled to regain composure while the bat laid out his high speed assault. The couple’s strengths powerfully make up for any weaknesses, because the hybrid saw this he became more worried every minute and grew anxious. The dragon regained her senses before the impact of the ground and stopped mid-air. She flew higher and breathing in and prepared for another blast of flames, the only thing fiercer than the dragon’s flames was her scowl and glare she aimed at the hybrid. The anger a mother produces transcends that of any other. She spread her wings and released the blast at the hybrid, the blast covered far more area than it had before, this blast alone was meant to be the end. The bat vanished to the skies to seal of his only escape route, they had him perfectly checkmate. The hybrid locked eyes with the dragon, her glowing red eyes that carried hate and disgust were put to shame when faced by the hybrids gleaming blue eyes; loss and betrayal and far more anger fueled him. His body dived forward with both wings to his side, his speed increased exponentially to the point he was no longer visible to her. Without time to react he was beside her and completely escaped the flames, with one swift motion he opened his mouth and let out his flames. Due to his size the impact of flames was lacking and barely moved her but with each second the roar he let out with his flame simultaneously increased. The trees began shaking once more and each ember of the ground grew in size catching fire to the whole forest. The purple flames danced under the moon to each gust of wind created under the hybrids wings. The bat flew down to aid his dragon partner but before even getting close she was blown into the ground by the intense beam of flames the hybrid released. She laid still in the crater made in the ground by her impact, while the bat yelled out in rage and charged forward to attack, whatever dulled his blood lust has been put aside in this instance. The hybrid made his advance into the forest burning inferno where the bat had followed quite shortly after. The hybrid had lead the chase dodging trees engulfed in flames of purple and white, with each second creating a larger gap between him and the bat behind. The bat flew off course in an attempt to cut him off but after passing a tree that fell from the burning debris the hybrid was gone, he had disappeared faster than an ember could move. The bat stopped cold in his tracks intensely scanning around for the missing hybrid, he caught glimpse of a white glare in his peripheral vision; it became more apparent that the hybrid hadn’t been growing faster than the bat but he had been getting slower. The hybrid lead the fight into the fire so the smoke would cause him to get slower. Above the bat was the hybrid with his wings spread out taking the pose of victory, his eyes filled with tears and his teeth clenched. The hybrids single tear fell down from the side of his face and he beamed down disappearing into white light again, almost as if he became a living laser or light itself. The laser flew around the bat completely overwhelming him in every sense until finally piercing right through the bats chest in a straight line. The droplet hit the ground and the bat closes his eyes, finally he may rest, his growing darkness is followed with last words by the hybrid.
“Goodnight father.”
