Prologue: An Introduction to the Dursley Family

Once upon a time in a neighborhood as plain and boring as could be, there was a household that went by the name of Dursley. Now everyone in this house took pride in the fact that they were the most mundane family of their neighborhood. In this house lived Mr. Vernon Dursley, Mrs. Petunia Dursley, and their nine year old son Dudley. All of them had a very big secret hiding in their house that all of them loathed and despised.

Now in order to find out about this secret we have to rewind the time to around nine years ago when Dudley was around one years old. That was when Petunia was reminded of a side of her family she would rather forget. This reminder came in the form of her baby nephew who was left on the doorstep of the Dursley's house. The baby's name is Harry Potter, son of James and Lillian Potter who was Petunia's sister.

Lillian was the bane of Petunia's life because she was everything her sister was not and had one special gift the other did not have. She was smart, witty, beautiful, and had the gift of magic. This infuriated Petunia because it made Lillian stand out in a way she couldn't. Eventually it got to the point where the envy filled woman began pretending she never had a sister after she moved out of her parents home.

Because of this decision and the loss of contact between the two sisters Petunia would not know that Lillian had Harry or that she was being hunted by the second worst dark lord the wizarding world had ever known. She would not know that on the 31st of October in the year 1981 Lillian would die along with her husband at the hands of a madman. That is why it came as a shock her to find a crying baby on her doorstep with a letter tucked into the basket it was in.

Petunia frowned as she snatched the letter up and began reading it. Her face turned bright red when she saw her sister's name before she paled drastically as she read further down. "Vernon!" She hollered once she was done reading. Vernon came lumbering to the door and asked what was wrong. Petunia shoved the letter in his hand and snapped for him to read it.

The whale like man grunted before he began reading the letter. His face turned a dark angry crimson when he got to the part that pretty much threatened something horrible would happen to his nice normal family if they didn't take the freak in. "What should we do Vernon? We can't have that...thing...getting near our poor Duddykins! Plus what would the neighbors think if they found out?!" she exclaimed softly already nervously peering around to make sure nobody had saw the baby.

Vernon scowled as he appeared to be thinking hard before glaring down at the bundled up now wailing baby. "We'll have to take it in. We can say its parents were drunken slobs that died in a car crash and we were forced to take the whelp in since it doesn't have any other family." he growled as he reached down and picked the baby up before they both disappeared inside.

Hi there,

I just finished reading your story, and I wanted to say how much it impressed me. The characters, the emotions, the pacing, and the atmosphere all felt incredibly authentic and immersive. It’s a piece that really stays with you.

As I was reading, I kept thinking about how well it would translate into a comic. The way you build scenes and emotions has such a strong visual quality. I’m a freelance artist who specializes in adapting stories into visually, driven comics, and I would be thrilled to collaborate if that’s ever something you’d be interested in.

Of course, there’s no pressure. I simply wanted to reach out and share the idea. If you’d like to chat more, here’s where you can find me:
