Prologue

I came to a stop and looked into the two most hauntingly beautiful eyes I had ever seen. Their green looked at me shocked as I whispered the word I hoped to never say, “mate.” My eyes widened and before she could take a step closer, I turned and bolted.

Zander was a lone alpha, preferring solitude than pack life. It's not that he didn’t like his pack, he just wasn’t suited to be near them. His wolf tended to be violent with females, becoming overly dominant. Plagued with thoughts of not being safe for his mate, he made all efforts to avoid finding her. On the fateful day their paths crossed, he ran.

Alex had been depressed for as long as she could remember. Her days would meld into one, creating a loop that never ceased. She first brought a blade to her thigh when she was fourteen, the sensation of the blood running down her leg broke the monotony of the loop. Thus, she was addicted. When the cutting wasn’t enough, she turned to drugs, but still never forgot her first addiction. Both addictions resulted in her wolf becoming weak and numb. Her pack pushed her to the outskirts of the territory due to her disgraceful wolf. On the day he ran from her, she knew that she would never be good enough.
