The Face That Looks Like Everyone [Mythos]

All Rights Reserved ©

Summary

A collection of stories with a recurrent narrative theme, something in reflections that can walk around with the face of people deep in their vanity. Looking back at my graveyard of documents, I have recovered stories about a mirror entity that plays a Mirror on the Wall game where you can't look away, and he's the leader.

Choose Your Face

The overflowing vanity of today’s youth is too alarming. People tend to overlook this harmless but irritatingly prevalent sickness to the point thathaters are born. To the affected, this is harmless. To the ones who affect, it is harmful. You might be asking what I was talking about, and I have indeed expected that. That is why I have prepared a story for you. Something recent.

Every morning, she takes a picture of herself. Every before and after meals, she takes a picture of herself. Even before sleep, she takes a picture of herself. I had no choice but to accept that… Anywhere she goes, the shutters take action. That was when I realized, I had to take action.

Before she went to sleep last night, she took a usual picture of herself. I had no choice but to let her do it. She’s still below the vanity threshold. She was so happy seeing what she calls cute, and itched to post it in her Facebook and Twitter account, ready for all those Duck Hunters and naïve people who will like or follow her. Before turning the lights off, she scanned her pictures and boy was she pleased. Arriving at the most recent pic, she nodded with seriousness that she was reaching the top of physical appeal.

This time, I had a choice. The mouth that was hers and not hers started to smile. I could see her struggle from my will, but this time, I had a choice. She was crying and it made her cry more when she realized that I could move my lips. I smiled ear to ear as the cheeks that were hers and not hers slowly ripped to my will. I might have overworked on this recent face, as it was the first time blood spurted out of the soft tissue I’ve grown to hate so well. I’ll clean up the mess later. She was flailing her limbs like everyone did in futility, which was one of the most entertaining parts of carving. Her screams were suddenly filled with her gurgling her own blood, and her limbs fell lifeless on the crimson bed that was once white.

I enjoyed letting her go because now, I had a choice. She dropped the picture that she was unknowingly pinching all along and I slid along with it to the ground. The face that wasn’t anymore hers was now mine. I could see the faint rising and falling of her chest but I let her be. I laughed as I imagined what could happen if she survived. I grabbed her mirror and examined my new face. I didn’t think wandering around the city as a girl this time was half bad. I walked away and stretched my long fingers for a new face to wear.

Help me look at my collection. I have the choice.
