Definitely worth the read
"The story is unique, though I was missing the peak(s) of the plot. There is no real climax where it wants to go to, no "big challenge" for the main characters, you know what I mean? The characters and their world are absolutely believable and the author did a fine job telling us through - a lot - of flashbacks how it ended up what it is now. The writing style is great, I'm happy for the author that she get's her work published, because it's definitely professional level! If you want a werewolf story that's not like the "usual stuff" here on Inkitt, I'd definitely recommend this one."

"This was so well written! I dont even know where to start. This book is a bit of a thought provoker, and i just loved it. The flashbacks threw me off a bit, but when looking into it, it makes sense. Our main character seems to be so developed already in the begining and as you read on, you get to see how this he got to where he is. It's awesome seeing how Hector's mindset changes the longer he spends time with Royer. Hector and Royer ARE GOLD. I dont know dont know how to describe it but i loved them. They have such a beautiful relationship and even though it's nothing romantic, i was hooked. Its a great read. I totally recommend it. And I Need More of Hector and Royer!"

Werewolves and the men and women who hunt them
"This story does an excellent job of setting up a world, not unlike our own a few centuries ago, but with the difference that werewolves exist as a recognized problem and there are people, hunters, who deal with them. The hunters are very organized, at least the group based in Frankfurt. They are trained in the most efficient ways to kill werewolves, but they also have doctors who try to understand the condition and find a cure. It's a well-developed world, as long as you don't expect it to be an exact copy of past Germany, with added werewolves. For one thing there seems to be quite a lot more gender equality than one would expect, which I approve of. If a world can have werewolves it shouldn't be odd that it can have female hunters. The characterization is interesting. You get a good feeling for most of the characters, for however long they are in the story. The only exception being Royer himself. For all his openness, he remained something of a mystery to me. This in combination with the open end, made me think that a sequel might be in the works. The plot itself is relatively simple. Hector is a werewolf hunter and good at his job. Then one day he gets news about a werewolves who is not like the mindless beasts he's usually called in to dispose off. I won't spoil what happens in the story, but I will note that if you're hoping for a great big open war between werewolves and hunters, this is not your kind of story. It's a story for when you want to take a stroll in another time and place and get to know and care about a handful of people, without having to deal with the world being at stake or everybody dying all the time. Not that there's not loss and trauma, but it's mostly in the flashbacks (some of it still hit home, though),."
M. Howalt's Aconitum
"M. Howalt's Aconitum was one of the very first things I read in Serial form online. Each chapter kept me engaged and interested in the progression of the main character and his relationships. I found the plot to be simple in many regards, but wholly satisfying in its delivery. There was no over-abundance of unnecessary brawling, no excessive gore, and a lot (a LOT) of heart. I found each character to be well-thought out and genuine, and the conflicts presented were thoughtfully detailed and insightful. A great dynamic between the main character and his friends or allies. A wonderful read, through and through. My only complaint: I want MORE!"

"Fantasy normally doesn't interest me. But when I read M. Howalt's werewolf story, Aconitum, I caught myself getting hooked. It's a lovely story. I love its humour and drama and the deep insight into the characters and their nature. Read it! You won't let go of it before you've finished. And then a sequel would be appropriate - and both novels in print so you can own them."
Writing from the soul
"I love this story. Pure and simple. The plot is fetching and compelling and the characters are likable, From the slightly shut-in main character to the enigmatic wolfy sidekick and the random farmer or merchant making apperances along the road. The story itself is a fairly straight forward, but the quirky writing and the small twists makes for an entertaining read, filled with humor and surprises and the story does not lack in the excitement that makes the reader keep turning the pages. I would love for this to be a reality, the turning the pages bit, as the book would fit rather nicely on any bookshelve belonging to a lover of ilterature and the supernatural."
Your own personal werewolf
"A very personal story of wolfhunter Hector and his meeting with a whole new kind of werewolf in sweet, mellow Royer. The story progresses at a slow, contemplative pace, giving us time to get to know and care for Hector, and what has made him who he is. The world is well imagined, and serves as a good backdrop for the story."
Not the average werewolf story
"This is a good book for people who want to read about werewolves without getting involved in the paranormal romance craze that's currently sweeping urban fantasy. Aconitum is set in an alternate history with a number of similarities to ours (this world has obviously been very well thought out by the author), in which werewolf hunters are more like humans and less like superheroes. The story follows Hector, a stiff hunter who is faced with the impossible in the form of a man who can seemingly control his wolf. Hector has to deal with his new charge as a prisoner, a scientific discovery, and, eventually, as a friend. If you're one of those people who doesn't think there can be a new take on werewolves, read Aconitum."
