Preface
The unthinkable nightmarish scenario conspiracy theorists had presaged for decades-one in which the vast majority of the population of North America largely dismissed as the rantings of paranoid right-wingers-had finally come to fruition. Roughly two years had passed since the once-unstoppable United States of America experienced a catastrophic event economists had been predicting for over a decade-the collapse of the once-mighty American greenback. The period succeeding the 2008 Financial Crash had slowly plunged the U.S., Canada along with every western nation into turmoil and triggered a third world conflict of near biblical proportions.
A year had passed since the United States, NATO and Israel had declared war on the newly-formed alliance of nations comprised of the Russian Federation, China, Iran, Malaysia, Indonesia, Pakistan, Brazil, as well as the Islamic States of the Middle East and Central Asia. The majority of American and Canadian forces had been deployed in the main theatres of Syria, Korea, Iran, Iraq and Ukraine to fight alongside their NATO allies in addition to troops from Australia and New Zealand.
The United States had descended into complete anarchy following the collapse of the economy, an event that greatly affected the economies of neighboring Canada and Mexico. Daily food riots were a common occurrence. After nearly fifty years of a porous border between the U.S. and Mexico, the southern half of the country was flooded with millions of refugees as well as violent street gangs from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras.
Canada was ruled by a Liberal/New Democrat/Green coalition. The country’s oil and gas industries had been ravaged by the global economic meltdown. Desperate to preserve what was left of their economies, the leaders of Canada, the U.S., Mexico, all of Central America together with each Caribbean nation reached an agreement to form a political union and adopt a common currency, the Amero.
Denver, Colorado, had been selected as the capital of this vast new world republic. Maximillian Asher, a long-serving, charismatic yet notoriously sociopathic-minded Republican senator, was handpicked to be president for life by the cabal of international bankers and elites who now had complete dominion over the entire continent.
The extreme right-wing former senator from Georgia used the mass civil unrest and lawlessness brewing throughout much of his empire to clamp down on all disobedience. The Constitution and Bill of Rights, the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms plus the constitutions of each and every nation merged into North America were deemed null and void. Asher declared martial law. Hundreds and thousands of United Nations troops, under the guise of maintaining order, were brought in to the major cities of North America to quell dissent and terrorize the populace.
Across North America, as many as two million libertarian activists, environmentalists, gun owners, Christians-anyone that actively opposed or was considered a threat to the regime-were rounded up and placed into “re-education” centres, most of which were either former correctional institutions or facilities set up on military bases.
The merger of the former nations of North America also brought all levels of law enforcement under one banner. Every agency ranging from small town sheriff’s departments, state and provincial police forces to the RCMP, Department of Homeland Security and the Mexican Federal Police were all unified under the federal North American Police.
Most large counties in Canadian provinces and American states were placed under the governorship of administrators, high-ranking bureaucrats appointed by President Asher himself. In British Columbia, all electoral districts were ruled by these administrators.
