||•PROLOGUE

"Ang Letra ni Kaisah" or alternatively "Kaisah's Letter" was a new top-grossing and hot topic novel in the whole of the Philipines, quickly climbing the charts and capturing the many hearts of the young ladies in the country...

Unfortunately, Laurence's girlfriend, Evanica, was one of those young ladies.

"The novel starts by Kaisah entering Lheborn Academy— the most prestigious school in the whole country, where she disguises herself as a poor commoner girl who just got in with her intelligence— The only one who knows that Kaisah is actually a daughter of one of the most powerful CEOs in the world is her stepbrother, Kyden—"

"Mhm..."

"—Who is really protective of her, and I kinda ship them... So, in the academy, she gets a secret letter from... Hey, are you listening?—"

"Yep,"

"Pay attention. So she gets a letter from two boys— three actually, but she doesn't know from whom yet— the first boy is the son of a rich CEO and politician— Xyren De Leon, he is one fourth japanese, one fourth arabian, and one fourth dutch and one fourth filipino... He's the cold type and he barely likes anyone— except for Kaisah, of course. And he's ranked second most handsome youth in the world record— He's also really smart, like, he won three million dollars from a quiz show in Britain and several trophies for solving Navier-Stokes..."

"Who on earth is Navier? And why did he get a stroke?"

"Sshhhhh! It's called Navier-Stokes, you idiot! And no one has solved it even until now."

"But you said that De Leon guy could solve his strokes..."

Evanica slapped her boyfriend on the arm. An annoyed expression on her face. One that usually motivated Laurence to tease her even more.

Evanica pinched the nose of her bridge after adjusting her glasses. And they weren't even glasses for visual aid, it was those useless ones that most people buy just to look fashionable. "Navier-Stokes is a math problem thingy... It's hard to explain. Just listen!"

She continued. "So, the second boy is also a son of a CEO, he's really handsome too, but too much of a playboy..."

"Oh?"

"And his name is Laren Rivero. He was a woman-thirsty bastard before he met Kaisah and changed his ways ever since. Too bad he got jailed in the end though." Evanica brushed her newly rebonded hair with her fingertips as Laurence shuffled into a more comfortable position while busily trying to figure out how to build a TNT block on Minecraft.

"Why?" He asked absentmindedly, not really caring whether she'd give an answer or not.

"Because of that evil two-faced bitch sister of his. Lara Rivero— She's the villaness of the story... She wanted Xyren all to herself so she plotted to destroy Kaisah and Xyren's growing relationship. And since Laren wanted Kaisah all to himself, he helped his sister with her evil plans."

"So that means Xyren wins the girl in the end?" Laurence questioned, killing a zombie in the process.

"Pretty much... So the third one—" Evanica got cut off by Laurence once more.

"But I thought Laren was also handsome."

Evanica rolled her eyes. "He is handsome, as well as Xyren, as well as Kaisah's third love interest. So about the third love interest—"

"So Xyren got the girl because he's second most handsome youth in some world record?"

"NO! Kaisah fell in love with him because of his personality! Not his looks or his money."

"So girls like handsome AND intelligent men?"

"Don't you compare Kaisah to every girl you meet!" Evanica screeched. Gritting her teeth in anger. In return, Laurence couldn't help but feel annoyed at her.

He paused his game and sat up straight, fully facing his rage-infused girlfriend.

"What is up with you and these books, Ev? This has been going for weeks now. You sure you're not reading too much?" Laurence tried to euphemise his words in an attempt to calm down the other person. But the hidden meaning behind those words were clear as crystal:

Aren't you mixing fiction and reality with all those nonsense you're reading?

Evanica got silent all of a sudden and started pushing Laurence out of her room. Her pushes weren't exactly strong, but Laurence felt like his body along with his heart was being bulldozed. Though his expression remained indifferent.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa!" Laurence exclaimed as he was pushed all the way outside of the house. The main door slammed shut right in his face. Laurence felt his throat bob. This was bad. Once Evanica acted like that, it would take months— possibly a year, for her to warm up to him again. Laurence didn't dare hope for a year.

He rammed the main door with his side, only to rub his left arm in pain after the impact. He then proceeded to knock frantically on the door, as if he was being surrounded by a horde of undead zombies.

The door finally opened, but before Laurence could rejoice, his forehead got hit by a flying object, successfully throwing him off his feet.

He looked at the object that was thrown at him... It was his phone! Then came a variety of objects thrown at him; a hairbrush, a book, a teddy bear, a toothbrush... And even that stupid romance novel that Evanica was obsessing so much on.

"I hate you! I hate you! I hate you!" He could hear her shout from inside before the door got slammed on his face once more.

Laurence clicked his tongue, pocketed his phone and kicked the "Kaisah's Letter" novel before tucking it inside his jacket for some reason. He then decided to tread back home. It was his only option since he doubted that Evanica would want his company right now.

He reached one of the bridges connecting the outskirts to the main city and fumbled his jacket for Evanica's beloved novel. She had probably thown it at him by mistake. He shifted his gaze to the turbulent current of the river below.

Ignoring the fact that he would regret it later, he tore a page from the novel. The sound of the tear gave him a satisfying feeling inside his heart. And continued to tear off several more.

I hate you... I hate you... You've ruined me and Ev... again.

Evanica's occasional outbursts weren't really new. There were a few squabbles of theirs in the past that resulted to nothing good. Laurence was aware that Evanica was a really... Passionate girl. Too passionate.

But he couldn't vent his anger at her. Rather he used the novel that added more cracks in their relationship instead.

"Worthless... Stupid romance... Why the heck would anyone write this kind of bullcrap..." He pronounced each syllable every time he tore a piece from the book.

When he was satistfied at the mangled appearance of the book, he threw it off the bridge. Though he couldn't stop the regret spreading in his stomach.

This was not him! It was stupid of him to destroy Evanica's favorite book. And he was even stupider to have chucked it off a bridge.

Highly questioning his sanity, he took off his shoes and stood on the railing. His goal set clear on his mind.

Get back the book!

Before he could jump, a pair of arms wrapped around his legs.

"What the—"

"Don't jump!" A voice called out. "Please don't! This isn't the solution!"

Did... Did this person think he was commiting suicide?

This is not what you think it is!

Laurence immediately felt shame and guilt heating up the nape of his neck and the upper part of his chest. He wanted to explain the situation but precious time would be wasted on words instead of actually doing the task.

Laurence shoved all of his concerns into the deep corners of his mind and steeled up his resolve before struggling out of his perpetrator's grasp and diving off the bridge. But unfortunately, this was a big mistake.

His perpetrator, feeling the shuffling of Laurence's feet, knew his intention so the perpetrator tightened the arms that were closed around Laurence's feet. But instead of keeping Laurence in place, his frame tilted to the front and accidentally bumped his head on the thick metal pillars of the bridge. The sound so potent that it even surprised the other person, making the arms that were grasping him in place loosen a bit, causing him to fall face-forward down to the merciless river beneath the very bridge he fell off.

He could still hear a panicked shout that was fading little by little as he felt his back collide with the water, eventually enveloping him in its tumultuous fervor. The current making him drift from side to side, not knowing whether up was down or down was up. Due to his head's concussion, he lost consciousness before he could even count the stars dancing in his eyes.
