“I just can’t believe it! Everywhere I look Death gets all the attention. In the newspapers, in stories and books, in every other form of art. And what about me?! Nothing! Death’s cool, Death is interesting, Death who loves cats, Death who kills everyone, good Death, bad Death, sad Death, happy Death, Death, Death, DEATH!!! It’s like they can’t stop talking about him!”
“There, there sir. It’s not appropriate. You must control yourself.”
“I know,” he breathe deeply and exhale slowly, “but seriously? He even got cults worshiping him. Why aren’t they worshiping me? I bring life! I deliver babies, bring peoples back from coma, I make people happy! I should at least have a little something to celebrate me, don’t you think?”
“Well sir, if you’ll excuse my sincerity, and I really don’t intent to insult you, but no one really cares about that.”
“I beg your pardon?”
“No one wants to hear the good things. It’s… well… boring. People wants to read about the byproduct you make, but you as a character,” he pause, “because you are so kind and good of course, you are not interesting.”
“Are you telling me that they rather personify Death?”
“But of course. He is a very fascinating, unexpected, multicolored and dynamic character. He can have many faces.”
“Death?!”
“Yes. He is fierce and unstoppable.”
“I can be fierce too! I can do whatever I want!”
“Not really sir… you have very little flexibility in your position. Most of the rules are determined up ahead. You give them life, they do whatever they want with it, and then Death takes them away. They fear Death. That’s part of his charm. If you’d let them live forever I’m sure the picture would have been different.”
