Thank you for the pain
You came out of nowhere
Completely unexpected.
Like a ray of light in a stormy sky
Making me hope one day you’d be mine
But leaving me empty-handed
Although sometimes letting me live
in my hopeful illusion.
You changed my world
Not always for good
You taught me what it means to care for someone
Like we care for each other
What great importance little things have
What comfort a hug can give
What emotions kisses can have
If only you want them to
You looked after me
Helped me mend my broken heart.
But then you threw everything away
Ripped my heart right out my chest,
Blood gushing out,
You stomped on it
Shattered it
Until there was nothing left.
But you taught me what pain is
What rejection feels like
Where desperation drives you
How evil people could be.
My pain hidden by anger
My heart shielded in stone
My tongue vested in venom
My eyes covered in ice.
This is what you did to me.
And I thank you for that
Because my pain made me grow
Your rejection made me stronger
Desperation showed me sanity
And your evilness gave me a reason to be good
Because behind every smile
There could be someone dying inside
Behind every laughter
There could be someone crying inside
Behind every word
There could be deeper meaning
And behind every face there is a heart
Covered in bruises,
In scars stitched up.
Just like mine will be.
