Prologue
On the ferry dock a bitter autumn afternoon, a little girl is sitting on the pier.
She is wearing little more than rags, and in her hand is a teddy bear.
The girl is waiting. The girl is longing.
A faint whistling behind her makes her turn, in hopes of a faith restored.
But only a strange sense of darkness lingers before her as a distant thunder roar.
The girl waits. The girl longs,
until finally, alone and forlorn, she no longer sees a reason to fear.
The girl stretches her hand out to meet the darkness,
as she waves goodbye to the bear on the pier.
