Chapter 1
POV, Ashley
I’d been raising him ever since I found him one year ago. I remember that day so clearly. I remember every little detail, everything that unfold. Every word said, every movement made. I remember it all.
I glared at Lucas with disgust. “Real mature.” I stated bluntly. He was my best friend ever- but god was he an immature piece of shit. He stuck his tongue out at me childishly. The urge to slap him was overwhelming, but I managed to resist.
“You dumb piece of-” I start before being cut off by an abrupt cry. I froze in my place and so did Lucas. We both stared at the bushes, where the source of the sound seemed to have come from. I squat down, peering into the bushes. “Are you crazy! You don’t know what it is!” Lucas hissed at me. I flipped him off, ignoring his concern. I was old enough to look after myself. My hands carefully parted the bush to reveal a small boy sobbing. My eyes widened and my heart sunk. I took a sharp intake of breath and the boys eyes snapped up and met mine. He has crystal blue eyes and golden curly locks of hair. He had tears streaming down his face and many, many visible scars running all over his little body. He couldn’t but much older then 5 or 6 years old. “Please don’t hurt me..” He whispered, his voice meek and dry.
“I won’t sweetie, I’m here to help,” He looked shocked at my answer. Didn’t react for a moment, didn’t move. Maybe debating in his head whether or not to trust me. Eventually he scooted forwards towards me and I protectively wrapped my arms around his thin body. His body tensed up for a second, but only a second before he nestled into my arms. “What are you doing out here all alone sweetheart?” I ask, brushing his hair out of his eyes so he could look at me.
" Miss didn’t want me..” He whispered tears rolling down his olive toned face.
“Miss? Who’s that sweetie?”
“S-Some people call it a- a mother.. but she was miss to me.. she didn’t love me.. mothers love people..” He trembled. I frowned at his answer. The poor thing. He didn’t deserve this. I stroked his back gently, getting him to warm up to me so I wouldn’t scare him.
“What’s your name sweetie?” He looked at me, his lip trembling as more and more tears poured down his face.
“M-my name is J-Jacob..” I smiled.
“That’s a lovely name I’m Ashley,” He smiled softly. The first smile I’d seen.
“Jacob, sweetie?” I call out wanting him to come down for breakfast. I hear him hurry down the staircase and land at the bottom with a thump and a giggle.
“Good morning Mama!” He says excitedly. Lucas groans walking into the room as I set Jacob’s plate with scrambled eggs and toast cut up into a dinosaur shape. Jacob gasps at the toast. “WOW!! Thank you so much Mama!!” He says running over to me and hugging me. I kiss his forehead before he runs over and eats his breakfast. I hand Lucas a plate of food and he takes it gratefully. “Where’s your brother?” I ask. Lucas rolls his eyes.
“Just because you two are fuc-” I glare at him, “-dating.. doesn’t mean u have to know where he is every second.”
“I know, he just didn’t rock up last night and I was wondering if you knew where he was.” Lucas nods his head.
“He’ll be in the study or the library. Trying to figure shit out I guess.” I hit him.
“Stop swearing around Jacob!” I hiss. He rolls his eyes again.
“You don’t care do ’ya champ?” Lucas says spinning on his chair to face Jacob. Jacob looks over.
“Mama says it’s bad to swear. So your bad.” With that, he runs off to go play with his LEGOS.
“Hah. Take that.” I smirk at Lucas as his mouth drops open in shock.
“That son of a bitch. He threw me right under the bus. Was all that LEGO building just a trick? I’m so hurt.” He jokes, dramatically throwing a hand at his chest as if in pain. This time, it’s my turn to roll my eyes.
“I’m going to look for Jackson,” I state, “Make sure to check on Jacob,” Lucas smiles and nods.
He’s been such a great friend. Even when we found out that Jackson- his own brother- was my soulmate. The destined to be love of my life- he was fine with it. He said it was awesome because now his 2 favorite people in the world had found their true loves it was great. He’s always been supportive of everything I’ve ever done. He truly is my best friend.
I find Jackson in the study wearing a button down shirt -which is clearly not buttoned- and some pants. He looks up from the book he’s been reading and smiles. “Hello Love,” He smiles. “Love” that’s been his new nickname for me ever since we found out we were soulmates. I smile. “Hey darling,” I reply walking over to him. I take a seat next to him, glancing down at the cluttered mess of books on the table.
“I know, I know. I’ll clean it. I promise.” He says with a sigh. I let out a laugh, shaking my head.
“It’s fine, I don’t mind the mess. Really,” He smirks, tugging me closer to him.
“Is that so?” I let out a giggle as his hand settles on my thigh, his mouth moving closer to me. Just as we’re about to kiss the door spring open and Jacob runs in holding a LEGO structure.
“Mama! Look look look!” he says proudly holding up a LEGO tractor. It has all different shapes which tells me he made it with no instructions.
“It’s amazing Jacob! You should be really proud.” He smiles and runs out shutting the door behind him.
Jackson flics his fingers and a blue mist locks the door.
“Now, where were we?” I laugh.
