When it comes to writing, sometimes the biggest hurdle isn’t the blank page. It’s believing you can fill it.

Suze Wilde, the talented author behind Tracking and Treason, recently published on Galatea, knows this feeling all too well. In this honest and inspiring interview, Suze opens up about her journey from avid reader to published author, how she found her courage through Inkitt, and why writing has become her perfect escape. Whether you’re just starting out or in the thick of your next book, Suze’s story is proof that it’s never too late to just do it.

Inkitt: What inspired you to become an author?

Suze: There wasn’t a specific moment, but as an avid reader, I always created stories in my mind. However, I never thought I was good enough to put pen to paper, and sometimes, I still think that.

Inkitt: How did you first discover Inkitt?

Suze: I read a story recommended by a colleague on a different website, and after doing some research, I subscribed to Inkitt and Galatea. Reading those stories gave me the confidence—heart in my mouth—to upload my first story, all while hyperventilating.

Inkitt: What was it like seeing your story gain traction?

Suze: I nervously checked the website multiple times a day. Okay, full disclosure—I had it open constantly, and every time someone added or liked the book, I was in seventh heaven.

I received a Galatea contract for my first book and was simultaneously gobsmacked and over the moon.

Inkitt: What advice would you give to other authors hoping to sign a contract?

Suze: Just keep at it. Not every book hits the algorithm—I have quite a few that haven’t—but each book you finish is an achievement and hones your craft.

Inkitt: What are the biggest challenges you’ve faced in your writing journey?

Suze: My biggest challenge was confidence, so two years ago, after a colleague told me a story that really hit home, I adopted the Nike motto—just do it!

I have a varied background and two native languages. I currently live in Canada and writing in Canadian/American English is quite different from British/South African, but I have learned to write in American English.

Inkitt: What part of the writing process do you enjoy the most?

Suze: The best part is when I’m in the zone, and the writing just flows. Hours slip by, and you feel like you’re in another world—classic escapism.

Inkitt: What do you hope readers take away from your stories?

Suze: I hope to provide entertainment and escapism to my readers. The world we live in today is tough and we all need some escapism.

Suze Wilde’s story reminds us that every writer begins with a bit of doubt—and that courage often comes from the simple act of showing up.

From checking her story stats with bated breath to signing a Galatea contract, her journey is both relatable and inspiring.
