Hello fellow Inkitt lovers! How are you, and the story you can’t seem to put down? Is it intoxicating? Flushed with forbidden romance? Do they hate each other…but not for long? Do you love historical pieces, some fantasy love at first sight, are you a sucker for forced proximity? Or maybe a crushing love triangle? Tell me more- am I right?

Tropes of our all time favorites can be found on Inkitt and our most beloved sister apps, Galatea and CandyJar (GalateaTV re-imagined). We know this right? Right?!

What Makes Opposites Attract So Irresistible?

All jokes aside, Have you ever found yourself wondering why you just can’t seem to get enough? Maybe I can help!

Maybe you found yourself obsessed over a new story and you just can’t seem to put your finger on it? Could it be a trope you haven’t tried out before? Maybe it’s just done in a way by your new favorite author?

Let’s talk about it!

I have always loved the trope of opposites attract.

Something about two worlds colliding just makes my heart swoon. Add a little “touch her and die” and I’m a sucker for it every time.

The Hellhound by AdelineJaden

A Perfect Example: Rage and Iris in Riders of Tyr

Have you read “Riders of Tyr: The Hellhound” by AdelineJaden

Our gorgeous male lead- Rage, is consumed by the beast within and finds his purpose as the attack dog for the only people he cares about. He believes his only worth comes from what he is used for, a tool for fighting.

A monster created by his past, someone who can’t be trusted with delicateness- That is until our delicate fairy like princess Iris walks into the Riders bar needing a safe place to stay and a job.

Someone who was always used as a sword finds himself as a shield. Protecting Iris from her own sad past and giving her something she’s never had, a soft place to lay her head at night.

I originally found this story on Inkitt in the “recently updated” section, and quickly fell in love with the entire series as thousands of others have.

The Most Exciting Parts of the Plot

I remember a specific scene that had me literally stand up and walk around my living room just digesting a patch of dialog between the two that had my heart in my throat.

In chapter 23 we see the point of view of Rage. He walks into the kitchen and Bjorn, a very close friend of Iris and brother to Rage, asks “How is our girl doing?”

Rage answers all too quickly “My girl is fine. With every bit of ephesians on My girl

I love the little details that form the trope. And truly believe it’s the little things that build that bigger picture.

In opposites attract books specifically we see just that while getting to know their personalities. Adding in pieces of how one thinks versus the other makes the magic happen even more.

The Power of Small Details in Opposites Attract

Personally for my own writing that inner dialog is key to have the reader feel it.

I want to know why the bad boy thinks the good girl thinks she’s better than him. I want to know why he sees her as perfect when all she sees when she looks in the mirror is mistakes she’s made. I want to know why he breaks the mold and offers that softness.

I want to know what about her is finally enough to penetrate that steel armor.

In this series created by one of inkitts favorite authors, We see this trope done beautifully.

The Role of Emotions

Reading along we see Rage is well- full of rage. He wants to live in a full on war and he feels like the bloodshed is a perfect fit for him. We also see how drastically iris does not fit this.

We read her softness on every page, how she wants a safe place, a peaceful existence.

How kind and gentle she is, something Rage never thought he would receive let alone be capable of doing.

But like all good opposites attract, they surprise each other! A common ground is formed and they find a way to move closer together until- love! oh true love.  Key details like this bring those worlds together, but we can’t not mention the common ground they eventually find either.

I mean, how else would they finally stop and start to see the other person as.. a little something more?

Final Thoughts

Creating this format, this delicious format makes this trope something wonderful and guides some of the best stories on the planet. What’s your favorite trope? Are opposites attract one of your instant loves?
