Finally, that cherished moment arrived for Vivienne Holmes when she could cross the threshold of her dream fashion college. She had long dreamed of getting in, and after a long struggle, she finally succeeded. However, her joy was unfortunately overshadowed by dark clouds.
One fine day, she found her boyfriend in bed with another girl. It would have been half the trouble if she hadn’t known the girl, but she didn’t! Especially since it was the day they were supposed to hang up signs with the names of those lucky enough to get into that particular college.
Considering she had suspected something was up for some time, but thought she was just being overly sensitive, that was all. Now, however, Vivienne deeply regretted not listening to her inner voice, which told her not to ignore it.
Unfortunately, it was too late, and there was nothing she could do about it. She couldn’t even come to terms with the fact that the girl her boyfriend was cheating with was her best friend, Madeleine Carter! And as we all know, she hadn’t paid attention to her in that regard, and now she deeply regretted it!
So it’s no wonder that in a situation like this, what else could she have said but what she just said? Because anyone in her position would have said something like that if they were dealing with something like that, right? That was the only thing that came to mind right now.
„How could you do this to me! And to my best friend, too!,” Vivienne screamed after a moment, right after seeing them in bed together.
„Honey, it’s not what you think!,” Dustin Burns tried to save himself.
Even though he knew perfectly well that the facts were stacked against him, and even more so against Madeleine Carter herself. Madeleine Carter, who had never expected Vivienne to return home from her trip to visit her extended family so soon. If she’d taken that into account, all of this probably wouldn’t have happened now.
But she couldn’t help it and could only rage at herself for her stupidity. That’s why she spoke the way she did, trying to somehow smooth over this unfortunate situation. Although something inside him told him it wouldn’t really work, but he had to try.
„Please, calm down... I’ll explain everything to you in a moment...,” Madeleine began to speak to Vivienne, now her former friend.
Vivienne, however, had no intention of letting her finish her sentence. That’s because she didn’t want to hear what she had to say. What she saw was enough for the blonde to know what to do next! Consequently, she didn’t dwell on it for long.
„You have nothing to say to me! It’s over! If you cared so much about my friend, you should have been with her, not me! I don’t want to know you, get out of my sight,!” Vivienne announced after a moment, cutting them off mid-sentence while packing her things.
Especially since she had no intention of staying in that lousy place any longer, of that she was one hundred percent sure! That’s why she paid them no attention, because they no longer mattered to her. And that was because she was disappointed in both of them, which, as we know, hurt even more.
Because this concerned the person she’d called her best friend just moments ago. And the person who, just moments ago, had been her boyfriend, before he’d decided to cheat on her with that other person. No wonder, then, that tears were starting to stream down her face, smearing her carefully applied makeup.
Vivienne slowly began to wonder if she really was destined to have no one to rely on besides her family. But she pulled her phone out of her purse, called a taxi, left that fateful apartment, and went outside. Luckily, Vivienne hadn’t fully moved in with him yet, so she didn’t really have much luggage.
Considering, in fact, she was fully expected to move in with him if she got into that college. She couldn’t help but feel her stomach tighten with despair. It always did when scenes like this happened, and there was nothing she could do about it.
In the end, she focused on calling that damn taxi. She only breathed a sigh of relief once she was in it and could focus on blocking the phone numbers of those two people. Not forgetting those damn social media, which she didn’t regret at all later.
And she decided to focus on what was really waiting for her. But this time, she would give up on this so-called overrated love. Because how many more times did the blonde have to suffer before she was finally happy? Especially since she had just turned eighteen.
However, before she made the remaining blockings, she decided to dial her mother’s phone number and was currently waiting for her to answer. Finally, after a while, she heard her mother finally answer the call and hear her voice on the speaker. Although at first, she thought she wouldn’t answer the call.
„What happened that made you call me so urgently?,” Vivienne’s mother asked after a moment, slightly alarmed by the annoying ringing, as if it were an alarm bell, coming from her beloved daughter.
„What do you think? I got into my beloved school, that’s one thing, and secondly, I’m going home and not moving out like I planned. And that’s because I found my best friend in bed with my boyfriend, that’s what happened!,” Vivienne explained after a moment, her voice now dispassionate.
At the same time, she was trying at all costs to control the conflicting emotions that were tormenting her, which could explode at any moment. Only when she finally blurted out what was currently inside her could she finally feel true relief. Although that didn’t mean she immediately calmed down.
„I’m glad you managed to get in, because I know how hard you tried to do it! And besides, don’t worry about them; it’s clear they weren’t worthy of you. And this supposed friend of yours seemed suspicious from the very beginning, and I wouldn’t be surprised if she was behind not only what you found now, but all the other cases as well! To cheer you up, I sent you something special that will surely cheer you up. And after all, this is what you’ve been dreaming of for so long!,” Mom replied after a moment, trying to cheer her daughter up.
Although, as she probably realized, she didn’t always succeed. Vivienne only sighed softly at the sound of her mother’s words. And that was because, no matter how she looked at it, she was absolutely right. It only now dawned on her that if she had paid attention to the subtle signs, she wouldn’t be suffering again.
It was plain to see that Madeleine was simply playing with her, as if she were her own toy. She didn’t want to admit it, but the words pressed against her mind, making her cry even harder. Which, in a way, was understandable.
„You’re absolutely right about that; it was my fault for not noticing!,” Vivienne stated after a moment in response to her mother’s words.
„Daughter, it wasn’t your fault! You have no right to say that! It was her fault that she turned out to be the person she was!,” her mother replied after a moment, trying to reason with her daughter.
„Actually, you’re right about that too! Why should I bother with people like her?,” Vivienne finally announced, finally admitting her mother was right.
Vivienne ended her conversation with her mother shortly after, as she was just reaching her destination. At the same time, she felt like a complete idiot, pointlessly clinging to someone who, as she knew, wasn’t truly worthy of her. If Dustin cared about her, he probably wouldn’t have cheated on her with an ex-friend.
And if Madeleine really were, she wouldn’t have ruined their friendship in such a foolish way. She didn’t even notice when she sighed softly again, pushing her blonde hair back from her face. Just then, she stood in front of her family home, which was much further than her beloved University.
Tea was over by now, so there was no way Vivienne was looking for a dorm room. Because she probably would have found one now, she was absolutely certain of that. Maybe next year, when she finished her senior year.
In the end, however, she dismissed it and casually turned the key in the lock to open the front door. It was the only way she could get inside and turn on the hallway light. Without a second thought, she pushed her things inside, arranging them so she wouldn’t break her legs later.
How would she ever want to move them from this spot one by one, because she didn’t want to end up with a cast? She took off her coat and shoes, which she returned a moment later to their rightful place. Her hat also found its place, not long after she took it off her head and placed it on one of the empty shelves.
