Prologue
Julien Hart didn’t believe in miracles, but he did believe in deadlines. And today, they’d all come crashing down on his head like a goddamn avalanche.
A pitch lost. Two investors pulled out. His CFO threatening to walk. And through it all, he hadn’t slept more than four hours in three days.
Now, slouched in the back of his black car with his tie yanked loose and his temples pounding, he stared blankly out the tinted window. Neon lights blurred by. Everything felt too loud. Too fast. Too much.
“You look like shit,” Evan had said that morning, the rare friend Julien still tolerated. “You need this place. Changed my life.”
Julien had scoffed, of course. Evan had been spouting some nonsense about a secret after-hours spa that didn’t advertise, didn’t list a menu, and didn’t even have a front door. You had to be referred. Like some underground club, but with essential oils and hot towels.
“It’s not what you think,” Evan had said with a smug little grin. “Just... go. Tell them your name. They’ll take care of the rest.”
Julien didn’t know why he’d listened. Maybe it was exhaustion. Maybe desperation.
But now, as his driver pulled up to a quiet alley behind a building with no signage, he felt a flicker of something unfamiliar.
Curiosity.
A single black door stood waiting, the only light a soft red glow above it.
Julien stepped out of the car and adjusted his cuffs. The air smelled like jasmine and rain.
He knocked once.
Then the door opened—and everything changed...
