House of Alphas Glossary
As an Omegaverse book, House of Alphas differs from my normal shifter universe (for now hehe). If you're new to Omegaverse, well I am too, so bear with me as I give it a remix (or not)...
Key detail: These Alphas, Betas, Omegas, don't shift! No furry friends here.
Here are terms to remember as you read:
Scent/Scent Match: A Scent is biologically unique to an individual. It conveys emotion, health, arousal, and hierarchy more clearly than words ever could. A Scent Match is basically a soul mate, occurs when two or more pheromone signatures align in rare, perfect compatibility.
Alpha - 1/3 of the secondary gender/designations in the Omegaverse world. Alphas are the doms of this universe, bigger, meaner, and all alpha male. (like my shifter alphas) They are male or female, with males having a 'knot' at the base of their sex, and females having an internal lock (think super strong vaginal muscles - never skips kegels day).
Bark - An Alpha's command or deep change in voice that makes Omegas and (in this world) Alphas during 'rut' obey. If they resist, it causes physical pain, minimal psychological torment (like an echo).
Rut - An Alpha's version of Heat. A period of time (a week) where they are at their most aggressive and primal state of mind, body, soul. Super horny, too. Vulnerable at this time and susceptible to a stronger Alpha's Bark (though it is highly offensive and used only in dire circumstances).
Knot - The thick, extra flesh around the base of an Alpha's penis. It inflates during sex or stimulation. Typically swollen to max size inside Omegas as their anatomy is suited for it, which locks them together for a long time. Usually lasts hours, unless your name is Blue (hehe). Boosts chances of reproduction & satisfies Omegas on a primal level.
Beta - 2/3 of the secondary gender/designations in the Omegaverse world. The mediators of the universe. Occupy a balance point between Alpha dominance and Omega instinct. They lack a rut or heat cycle but are capable of bonding (joining packs). Often serve as caretakers during high stakes. More human-like.
Omega - 3/3 of the secondary gender/designations in the Omegaverse world. Rare and often the center of packs. The Subs of the universe. Submissive in nature, and driven by scent and need for affection (and soft things).
Heat - A sexually insatiable period of time for Omegas and part of their reproductive cycle. Like an Alpha's rut, they are driven by primal instinct and need during this time. Only an Alpha's knot can manage this period. If needs are not met, this can become excruciating.
Slick - An Omega's vaginal lubricant produced in insane amounts during intercourse or heat. Allows for prolonged periods of friction (ha). Full of pheromones and highly potent to Alphas (they WILL smell it from across the room) signals arousal.
Nest - A safe, soft, serene place Omegas are biologically driven to create. Using soft and warm things like blankets and pillows, usually heavily scented by their Alphas or pack, they arrange them in a burrow type fashion within this room for ultimate comfort. Anyone but the Omega is not allowed to enter without permission or they will face her wrath or cause mental distress.
Scent Blocker - A short-term topical compound that dulls or masks pheromonal scent. Safe for regular use and often used in public or professional settings.
Scent Suppressant - A medical-grade neutralizer that targets scent glands directly. Its longer duration comes with hormonal risks and emotional desensitization when used repeatedly.
Heat Suppressant - A hormonal injection or pill used to delay or dull an Omega’s heat cycle. Prolonged use can disrupt natural cycles and cause serious hormonal imbalance.
