Chapter 1
Pov: [Davenport family house]
(Night)
[Silent music playing]
(Girl screaming)
[Everyone turns their lights on]
(Mr. and Mrs. Davenport walk toward Miracle’s room)
[Door opens]
Mr. Davenport: Hey, sweetie, what happened?
Mrs. Davenport: Calm down… what happened?
Miracle: (breathing slowly) M… Mum.
Mrs. Davenport: Sweetie, we heard you screaming… what happened?
Miracle: Mum… it is happening again.
Mrs. Davenport: What, sweetie?
Miracle: I keep seeing these things again… I cannot understand.
Mr. Davenport: What did you see this time?
Miracle: I saw… Ms. Angela… crying for help.
Mrs. Davenport: M… Ms. Angela? You mean Mr. Robert’s wife?
Miracle: Yes.
Jones: Mum… maybe she is just imagining stuff… as always.
Miracle: No… no… I did see her. She was screaming and begging for help.
Mr. Davenport: Sweetie… it’s late. Go to bed.
Miracle: What if… I see them again?
(Mr. and Mrs. Davenport look at each other.)
Mrs. Davenport: You won’t… maybe you are just stressed.
[Mr. and Mrs. Davenport walk away and close the door]
[Lights turn off]
Pov: [Mr. and Mrs. Davenport’s room]
Mrs. Davenport: Do you maybe think that we should take her to see a doctor?
Mr. Davenport: Who?
Mrs. Davenport: Miracle.
Mr. Davenport: No… why?
Mrs. Davenport: We both know that she has been like this since she was 3. She keeps saying stuff like, “This person will get hurt… I need to save this person.” And I’m tired of it.
And you remember when she was 8 and she told us there would be a fire at the shop and that we should leave? As soon as we left, a serious fire happened.
Mr. Davenport: It was just a coincidence. Don’t think too much.
Mrs. Davenport: Yeah, maybe a coincidence… but I’m tired of hearing her scream all night for the past five years.
Maybe we should see a doctor. Maybe she has a brain or mind issue.
Mr. Davenport: Sweetie… let’s turn to God first.
Mrs. Davenport: Yeah… God.
Mr. Davenport: We will start a family prayer at 6 p.m. every day, starting tomorrow.
Mrs. Davenport: Yes, good idea.
Mr. Davenport: Go to sleep now. I’m right here. I will protect our family.
Mrs. Davenport: Mmm.
[Mrs. Davenport lays her head on Mr. Davenport’s chest and slowly falls asleep]
Pov: Morning
Mrs. Davenport: Hi family… breakfast time!
Jones: Hi Mum.
Mrs. Davenport: Hi sweetie… how was your night?
Jones: Fine. And you?
Mrs. Davenport: It was peaceful.
(Miracle walks into the living room… everyone stares at her.)
[Mr. Davenport clears his throat]
Miracle: Hi Mum… hi Dad.
Mrs. Davenport: Hi sweetie.
(The family sits in silence and eats breakfast.)
Mr. Davenport: Who is ready for school?
Jones: Not me.
Miracle: Me.
Mr. Davenport: Okay, my two stinkies… it’s time for school.
(Both sisters smile.)
(Miracle and Jones get in the car.)
Mr. Davenport: Y’all ready?
Jones: Yes, Daddy.
(Gospel music playing in the background.)
[Father and daughters head to school]
Pov: School
(Nathalie runs to hug Miracle.)
Nathalie: Hi Mr. Davenport!
Mr. Davenport: Hi Nathalie. How are you?
Nathalie: I’m fine, sir. Good morning.
Mr. Davenport: Morning. I came to drop off your bestie.
Nathalie: (smiles) Yeahhh!
(Miracle gets out of the car.)
Miracle: Thanks, Dad.
Mr. Davenport: Bye. Have a good day. Be good.
(Both girls head to class.)
Pov: Class
Nathalie: Miracle, you good?
Miracle: No.
Nathalie: Why? What happened? You know you can trust me.
Miracle: It happened again.
Nathalie: What?
Miracle: I saw the thing again… maybe I should call it a vision.
Nathalie: Okay, tell me. What did you see?
Miracle: Our neighbor, Mr. Robert… I saw his wife crying and begging for help.
Nathalie: You mean your grumpy neighbor?
Miracle: Yes.
Nathalie: You told your parents?
Miracle: (inhales slowly) Yes.
Nathalie: What did they say?
Miracle: My mum said maybe it’s stress… and my sister said I’m imagining stuff as usual.
Nathalie: Wait a minute… I really don’t understand. Do you actually see the people in your visions?
Miracle: Yes, I do. And she kept saying, “Help me, please.”
(Nathalie laughs.)
Miracle: What’s funny?
Nathalie: N-nothing… I’m sorry. The way you say it… it sounds crazy.
Miracle: I know. That’s why no one believes me.
Nathalie: Since when have you had this so-called vision?
Miracle: Since I was 3.
Nathalie: Three? That’s so little.
Miracle: I know.
Nathalie: And now you’re 14?
Miracle: Yes… and now they are getting worse. I can actually hear and talk to the people in my visions.
Nathalie: Do you want us to sneak into your neighbor’s yard after school and check if his wife is okay?
Miracle: My mum said sneaking is bad, and God will not like that.
Nathalie: Do you know what God would hate?
Miracle: What?
Nathalie: You having the chance to save someone’s life… but letting it go.
Miracle: Okay, fine… we will sneak in just to check.
Maybe we should knock.
Nathalie: (laughs) Knock? Are you kidding me? You know your grumpy neighbor will never let you in.
Miracle: Fine… okay. Tomorrow at 8 p.m., Mr. Robert is always at work. He comes back at 10 p.m.
So we sneak in and try to find his wife.
Nathalie: What if you see her in the house healthy and okay?
Miracle: Then I will tell her… um…
Nathalie: Tell her what? “Excuse me, ma’am, I keep seeing you in my visions asking for help.” Are you serious?
Miracle: Yes… I will say exactly that.
Nathalie: Can’t you hear how dumb that sounds? She will look at you like you’ve lost your mind.
Miracle: Then what should I do?
