Chapter 1
My Name Is Not a KillerChapter 1: Surrounded
The sound of police sirens echoed through the streets.
My hands were locked tightly around the steering wheel, and my foot kept pressing harder on the accelerator.
Cars blurred past us one after another.
I glanced at the side mirror.
Three police cars were still chasing us.
Damn it…
Yoon Seok sat in the passenger seat. Despite our terrible situation, he was trying his best to stay calm.
Suddenly, a voice came through a police radio.
“Attention all units. The target is approaching Hangang Intersection. Block all exits.”
A few seconds later, we turned the corner.
My breath caught in my throat.
Police vehicles had completely blocked the road ahead.
“So Min! Watch out!”
Yoon Seok’s voice snapped me back to reality.
I slammed on the brakes.
The tires screeched against the asphalt.
The car skidded several meters before coming to a stop just short of the police barricade.
The impact threw me forward.
Yoon Seok quickly stretched out his arm to stop my head from hitting the steering wheel.
For a moment, everything went silent.
I turned to look at him.
A thin line of blood ran down from his forehead.
My face went pale.
“Yoon Seok!”
He gave me a faint smile.
“Don’t worry… it’s just a scratch.”
But I knew it was my fault.
If I hadn’t run…
If I hadn’t dragged him into this…
He wouldn’t be here.
A voice from a loudspeaker cut through my thoughts.
“Shin So Min! You are surrounded. Exit the vehicle immediately.”
My heart pounded violently.
Was this it?
The end of everything?
My eyes shifted to Yoon Seok.
No…
At the very least, I couldn’t let his life be destroyed too.
We stepped out of the car.
The flashing police lights illuminated our faces.
Dozens of guns were pointed directly at us.
Yoon Seok took a step forward and stood in front of me.
“Stay behind me.”
I bit my lip.
Idiot…
Even now, he was still trying to protect me.
Slowly, I reached for the handgun hidden behind my back.
I pulled it out.
“So Min…?”
I heard the confusion in Yoon Seok’s voice.
I whispered softly.
“I’m sorry…”
Then I pressed the barrel against his head.
The officers immediately shouted.
“Drop the weapon!”
“Step away from him!”
I yelled back.
“Nobody comes any closer!”
A heavy silence fell over the street.
“Drop your guns!”
Detective Kang Do Jin stared at me for several seconds.
Then, in a calm voice, he said,
“Lower your weapons.”
One by one, guns hit the ground.
Tears threatened to fill my eyes.
But I couldn’t let anyone see them.
In a loud voice, I shouted,
“Get in the car!”
Yoon Seok simply looked at me.
As if he already understood what I was trying to do.
Without a word, he climbed into the vehicle.
The moment I tried to follow him—
A gunshot echoed through the night.
Pain exploded through my right shoulder.
I couldn’t breathe.
My legs gave out beneath me.
The last thing I heard was Yoon Seok’s desperate scream.
“So Min!”
The world spun around me.
The sound of approaching footsteps grew louder.
Cold handcuffs locked around my wrists.
And then…
Everything faded into darkness.
