Chapter 1
My eyes had been glued to the same page for the past thirty minutes.Exams were approaching, so l had added an extra two hours of study time, but l couldn't seem to focus.
My chest felt heavy, as if it was about to burst. As if on cue, tears streamed down my cheeks like a river.l had random moments like this, where my emotions built up and l broke down without warning.l clutched my chest tightly as my breath came out in shaky heaves.lt hurt just to breathe.
"l miss you mom.....dad.....l miss you so much.''
The empty classroom echoed with the sound of my sobs.lt had been two years since their accident but the wound still felt fresh.Pieces of myself had been buried along with them.l was nothing more than an empty shell of my former self.
Suddenly, the air around me shifted and my nostrils caught the scent of strong masculine cologne.I quickly looked behind me, and in that moment, l had never wished more for the ground to open up and swallow me whole.
For the past three years since enrolling here, l had always stayed late to study alone in the classroom.l never expected anyone to still be around to witness me like this. The closer he got, the further l sank into my chair. Why did it have to be him of all people?
Xui Han.
Even though we had never spoken to each other before, there wasn't a single person in school who didn't know him or his family.Their name was attached to hospitals across the country, including the largest one and several powerful pharmaceutical companies.
They stood at the very top of the medical world.Xui Han was the first-born son and future heir to the family business.Naturally, girls constantly fawned over him, and it didn't help that he was unbelievably handsome.
He quietly stopped infront of me and l couldn't help but feel self conscious. My face was covered in tears and mucus, and to make matters worse, he had probably heard me bawling.
"l am so sorry.l didn't expect anyone to still be here.''
The words flew out of my mouth before l could stop them.
''Don't apologize. There's nothing to apologize for, Mei Xuang.''
He smiled softly, reassuringly, and l found myself staring in awe.He was the most beautiful person l had ever seen in my life.
He placed a small white handkerchief into my hand, and suddenly l remembered how horrible l must look.l kept sniffing to stop more mucus from running down my nose.
If embarrassment was a person, it would most definitely be me.
l couldn't tell what he was thinking as he stood there in silence, but strangely enough, it wasn't uncomfortable. His presence felt comforting somehow.
Maybe it was because this was my parents' death anniversary.
After my breathing finally steadied and my face looked somewhat human again, he turned to leave. He reached the door, paused, then glanced back at me.
He hesitated, as if contemplating his next move, then slipped a hand into his blazer pocket, pulled out a chocolate bar, and tossed it lightly toward me.l caught it, surprised. When l looked up again, he was already gone.
