Chapter 1
Canteen cookies.
I might skip breakfast in the mornings because I’m running late for school, but you will never catch me refusing one of those glorious creations.
“Oh my god SERAAA u got the last cookie!”
Soo turns out, I’m not the only one obsessed with them. Kat, my best friend, might actually love them even more than I do.
“Oh- hi Kat..yeah I did!”
Geez she’s staring at it so much she’s practically eaten the whole thing with her eyes.
…
sigh
I appreciate the perfect, chocolate chip- packed bite in the top right for the last time.

“Just take it bro-“
“THANK YOU SERA YOURE THE BEST”
“Of course!”

Okay so maybe I needed that cookie more than I thought..
But you should have SEEN her face, how am I supposed to say no to that?
So yeah, in my head, it was worth it. Besides, it’s just a cookie, I didn’t need it that badly.
Plus, it’s only third period art. Mr Lyon is half asleep for the first 20 minutes anyway, so I can just sit and preserve my energy ..
Wait okay I sound like a polar bear or something. It’s not even hibernation season .

I instinctively turn my head to my right. James Brown. Tapping his paintbrush on the edge of the glass like always. It’s kinda been a nervous habit of his - tapping stuff - since primary school. Except today - the paintbrush was new, and very similar to the ones I use.
“Hey, that’s new!”
He glances up at me, and all I can think is….he really needs a haircut . Seriously, his shaggy haircut from october had managed to become even shaggier, I was struggling to see his eyes .
“Huh?”
“The brush”
“Oh right”
“When’d you get them?”
“Like yesterday”
“What for?”
“I just wanted new brushes”
….
“Liar”
“Okay fine I got them because I think your paintings are cool and you know I’ve been trying to improve-“
“HAHAHHHAHAHAHAHA”
.
Ahh yes the James glare. Brings me so much joy to see him pissed.
“Shut up.”
‘WE need to shut up, and listen to what the lion has to say.’
I turn back to the front of the classroom, Mr Lyon about 60% awake now ? And James about 100% laughing, trying to hide it from me because apparently admitting I’m funny would be like walking through a landmine.
“Helllooooo lovely people ! I have a lovely project for you today!”
A collective sigh ripples across the room.
‘You will need a partner-‘
YES. Free period of gossip with Kat!
‘’See you James, I’m gonna go look for Kat-“
I immediately push out my chair and start looking for Kat’s black, coiling , curly hair .
‘Fortunately for all of you,’
The class goes quiet.
“I have chosen your partners for you!”
….
A collective of both, sighs AND groans ripple across the room.
‘Oh you’ve got to be kidding me-‘
‘James stop whining’
Josh. Gideon. Scott. Jane. Ramona; the list of ‘people in this class that I’ve never talked to’ , is pathetically long.
Apparently I spoke to these two idiots at the start of the year and figured that was enough..
