The Passing of the Emperor

In one of the ancient Chinese provinces, there ruled an emperor who was both mighty and wise, yet profoundly just. Under his sovereignty, the land flourished in immense prosperity, remaining vibrant and stable throughout the entirety of his reign.

The Emperor placed his unwavering reliance upon his own advisory council. This assembly was forged from a faction of powerful men drawn from every stratum of society. Among them were those who oversaw agricultural affairs, others who governed trade and commerce, and those who directed the realm's industries.

There were also those whose sole focus lay in warfare, weaponry, and defense, while others relied entirely upon sheer intellect, profound wisdom, and sharp wit. Yet, the closest to the Emperor's heart was his wise counselor, a man whose words and decrees the monarch trusted implicitly. He was a beacon of intelligence, standing as one of the most loyal and fiercely devoted subjects to the ruler.

Furthermore, a vast legion of personal guards stood dedicated to his protection, commanded by the Grand Commander. He was a formidable and intensely loyal man, a master who knew every art of combat. Proficient in the use of all manner of weaponry, he was among the soldiers most deeply attached to the Emperor, and the most fiercely protective of the lives of the sovereign and his family.

The Emperor was blessed with two sons. The eldest was the very mirror of his father, inheriting his profound wisdom, immense strength, and unyielding justice. From his earliest youth, the young prince strove with every fiber of his being to walk faithfully in his father’s footsteps. He remained a constant shadow to the Emperor, attending every council and assembly, eagerly absorbing the intricate arts of governance and learning how to navigate the crises, storms, and conflicts that occasionally swept through the realm. Because of his noble heart, he was deeply cherished by the entire royal court and beloved by his people. Everyone saw a bright future in him, eagerly anticipating the day he would succeed his father as a powerful, just, and triumphant emperor.

The youngest son, however, was carved from a starkly different stone. He was violent, utterly selfish, undisciplined, and consumed by a bitter, resentful jealousy. Clustering himself with troublesome peers among the sons of ministers and commoners alike, he spent his days provoking brawls and stirring trouble, using brute force and intimidation to seize whatever his heart desired, entirely shielded by his status as the Emperor's son. The monarch was deeply displeased by his reckless behavior. Time and again, the Emperor would counsel him, urging him to emulate his elder brother and cast away his foul traits, reminding him that such conduct was utterly unworthy of a ruler. Yet, his words fell on deaf ears. Instead of mending his ways, the younger prince only grew more cold and spiteful, harboring a deep-seated hatred for both his father and his brother, fueled by the bitter conviction that the Emperor openly favored and preferred the eldest above him.

He was consumed by jealousy and malice, firmly believing that he was the one who truly deserved his father’s closeness and, ultimately, the inheritance of the throne after him.

The years flew by in a blur, and the two brothers grew into powerful young men.

Then, tragedy struck. The Emperor fell gravely ill, his health deteriorating rapidly with each passing day. Before breathing his last, he managed to leave a final decree, officially naming his eldest son as the next Emperor to rule the land. As he drew his final breaths, he murmured, "I shall now rest in peace, for I leave my empire in safe hands."

With that, the Emperor departed from this life, leaving behind a nation plunged into deep, suffocating grief. His people wept bitterly, mourning the loss of one of the greatest, most exceptional rulers to ever govern their land.
