Summary

Pacie Damico has spent most of his life learning how to survive without anyone. His father died when he was seven. His mother's addiction and arrests eventually landed him in foster care at fourteen. Now eighteen and aged out of the system, Pacie has no home, no money, and a rare inherited illness he can barely afford to treat. So he does the only thing he can think of. He starts looking for family. What he finds is Ryker Damico. Lead singer of After Dark. Famous rock star. Father. And apparently, Pacie's older half brother. Getting close enough to tell him is another problem entirely. Pacie spends nearly everything he has on a backstage pass, only for Ryker to laugh off his claim as another fan trying to force their way into his life. Hurt, furious, and desperate for money for his overdue treatment, Pacie makes a choice that lands him in police custody. That's where Ryker finally starts paying attention. Because Pacie isn't coming down from drugs like everyone assumes. Ryker recognizes sick when he sees it, and when he learns Pacie has the same rare genetic condition as his six-year-old son, Quinton, one impossible story suddenly becomes a lot harder to dismiss. A DNA test gives Pacie what he went looking for. A brother. But becoming part of Ryker's life also means becoming part of After Dark's world, and fame comes with a price Pacie never agreed to pay. Reporters dig through foster homes, medical problems, arrests, his mother's history, and the drinking Pacie has used for years to cope with everything he would rather forget. To the public, he becomes a headline. To Ryker, he's becoming a little brother. And Pacie isn't sure which scares him more: having the whole world find out how badly his life fell apart, or finally having a family worth losing. Introduction

Thanks for joining me for another Brothers By Choice story.

One of my favorite things about this series has always been exploring the different ways people become family. Sometimes it happens through blood. Sometimes through circumstance. Sometimes through the people who pull you in even if you don’t think you want it and somehow turn “mine” into “ours.”

Backstage Pass brings that idea into a completely different world.

Ryker lives surrounded by noise, lights, music, fans, and a band that has become family in every way that matters. Pacie comes from a life where almost nothing has ever felt permanent. Putting them together gave me the chance to explore what happens when two brothers meet as strangers and have to figure out what being family is supposed to look like from there.

This story also gave me a cast I already love spending time with. After Dark may be built around music, but Ryker, Cooper, Bentley, and Cash have the kind of history that makes them feel more like brothers than bandmates. Then there’s Quinton, who may be six, but has absolutely no intention of waiting for the adults to catch up when it comes to deciding who’s family.

At the center of it all is Pacie, who is used to handling everything alone, even when he shouldn’t have to.

Thank you for opening another book in this universe and meeting another group of chaos magnets with me. Add this to your reading list to get notified when chapters start dropping.

Welcome backstage.
