Part 1
Hiran
The grand golden sun was set high over the second Merigold sun. The sky was clear and beautiful as ever. Sunlight filtered through the canopies of the white and purple haze of the Kousa Dogwood. The greenery below shimmered with quiet magic, transforming the meadow into an enchanted sanctuary. Soft carpets of emerald moss blanketed the ground, weaving between clusters of wild berry bushes and winding footpaths barely visible. Creeping between the sage-green shrubs and leafy hedgerows created cozy pockets of shade where woodland creatures could hide and rest. The Nymphs flitter between the trees.
I’ve sat on my favorite spot on the very top of Aureum mountain above it all, watching for hours now. I watched the many pairs and groups emerging from the claiming meadows. I have existed since the beginning, and I’ve reached a point where I wonder if I need more twice now. The first time I needed more, I wanted something familial in a sense. Fae emanated from my light and loneliness. But a partner by my side would be ideal at this time. The fates did as they pleased, even Gods and Goddesses don’t have a say. I felt my heart call out a secret I kept to myself. I knew that none of the initial Fae would be my mate. I hoped that maybe one of their many offspring would be. So far, nothing. Ideally, a faerie like me, perhaps I should venture to the other worlds. Perhaps mine was a witch or a shifter. I shook the thoughts away, putting the lock back on my heart. I hope it wasn’t any merfolk. I shudder at the thought.
I rule, I create, I do not need a mate, I try to convince myself. The thought was constant in the back of my mind only because of my advisors. They have been trying to make me choose one of their daughters to be my queen.
I felt the ripple at the border, and I flew down to investigate the disturbance. A huge pile of leaves shook as a woman sprang from the pile. Amusing and interesting. I felt this warmth and calmness radiating from her. When our eyes met, hers seemed unfocused. I landed. When she really looked at me, her eyes widened, taking in my wings. My wings are large and golden. Many have said the pattern was hypnotizing.
“You have gold wings.”
Oh, so she does know who I am. So why did she seem so confused? There was a familiarity
“Yes.”
“How hard did I hit my head?”
“You hit your head?”
“I had to have hit my head. Because a shirtless giant with wings is standing in front of me.”
“No, I’m not a giant.”
“Not a giant?”
“No.”
“But you’re so big.
She looked me up and down slowly before shaking her head. I smiled as she admired my body. She was gorgeous. Honeyed brown curls bounced with her. Her amber eyes glowed in the light. Juicy lips that sat perfectly under her button-nose. My eyes traveled to her petite, curvy figure. A mango shape, if you will. Well, petite to me, I wasn’t tiny by any means. She walked around me, stopping behind me.
And there are no straps. They’re real. How are your wings real?!”
The surprise in her voice threw me off. So, she had no clue who I was.
“I’m a faerie. And this is the Forrest of the Faewilds.”
“You’re joking. A faerie? Fae are not real.”
My eyes glow.
“Well, I’m standing right here, aren’t I?”
“No, I am hallucinating. My head hurts, but I don’t remember how I got hurt. Or how I got here.”
“Are you a witch? I sense something, not Fae magic, but something.”
“Uh, no.”
“And no, I am not joking. I never joke about my identity. I am the creator of the Fae. You are in the Faewilds, my creation. You are safe with me, but if you go into the Darkwoods, you will encounter things no human can dream of. You are h7uman right”
Her confusion could only mean one thing she was human. But why do I sense a hint of magic in her?
“Oh. That is an odd thing to say.”
“What is?”
“That I am safe with you. That’s something a serial killer would want you to think.”
The corners of my mouth twitched.
“I assure you I am no killer.”
She looked me up and down
“Mhm. I fight so I won’t go down easily.”
She tried to look intimidating, and I had to fight the laugh bubbling up. She dropped her bags. I looked at the books that fell out of one of her bags, it was another confirmation she truly is human.
“You don’t belong here.”
“No shit, Sherlock.”
“Who is Sherlock? My name is Hiran. King Hiran.”
She laughed before saying
“Wow, you should learn to speak sarcasm. I am fluent.”
“How did you find your way here?”
“No clue. I woke up here.”
“So, you are lost, little one.”
“I guess so.”
“You are safe with me.”
“So, you say glowing giant winged man, I mean Faerie.”
“I am the Fae king and creator. I do not lie, what reason do I have to lie to a human?”
“To ensnare me. To enslave me.”
I scoffed
“It wouldn’t require much if I wanted. I am obviously stronger than you.
“My head is spinning, and I am dizzy.”
“Are you okay? You truly are hurt, little one.”
“I believe so.”
She was so feisty and adorable. I heard myself offering
“I can help you.”
