Summary

For Jane, senior year is an absolute mess. In her eyes, everyone is the same—boring and disrespectful. First meet

I know how everybody works… trust me! At least out of this entire classroom, girls just act and dress the same, and guys? Do not get me started! I hate them more! Same styles, same weird lookin’ haircuts and everything! Public school is absolutely horrible for me. Well, for everybody obviously. When will people just find some personality for once?

without thinking, I slobbered onto my assignment. Ohh gosh… I placed my sleeve over the big saliva mess, glancing around to check if anyone had noticed.

and what do you know?! The basic white girls next to me were whispering to each other and giggling at me. I stared at them, my eyes attempting to be like laser beams of intimidation. But of course, they snickered at me once more.

Just like… let’s see… 6 months left? Hmm… yeah! 6 months left until I escape hell and actually get the chance to prove to these immature losers that I’m not just a piece of garbage outcast!

I whipped away from their obnoxious whispers and uncovered my paper. Gliding my pencil in thin lines and curves, I almost zoned out thinking about my future. Maybe the people at college will be nice for once. OOO Maybe, I could change my whole identity and get out of here! That would be so flippin’ sick!

if I had a tail, I would be wagging it off right now. I felt like a kid waiting for their birthday.

My lunch went cold. I didn’t care much about my social life as much as I did as a freshman. It’s almost too late to make friends. Totally not worth it. I’m literally leaving the state upon graduation.

I hummed along to the song on my earbuds and finally sunk my teeth into a chicken sandwich. Mmm jail food, yummy! (I’m joking)

I slumped down against the wall and ate my food in silence.

I don’t feel lonely that much,

I think I feel alone in this chaotic society.

Nobody cares about self expression anymore. I’m almost blinded by the consistency of basic outfits. Where are the flashy belts? No cool hairstyles? No wacky jewelry? C’mon, this is so stupid!

I huffed to myself, gazing down at my lunch tray,

actually, should I even call this being alone?

it’s like I’m in third person most of the time.

maybe isolated would be the best word for this.

“Hey James!” An annoying basic dude called out to me.

“it’s Jane, dumbass.” I scowled

“Okay, so?”

“So? What did you want?”

“My friend thinks you’re cute!” He pointed to an extremely ugly guy next to him

“Tell your friend that I know that his dad gambles his money away.”

The ugly kid gasped, “No,” he looked at his friends who looked at him too. “She’s lying!”

“My dad makes money off of your dad. Gotta love having a dad who is in charge of idiots!”

Next thing I knew, milk drenched my face. I flinched a little, but not too much. “What? Did I hit a nerve?” I teased, pouting my lips.

“I am giving you what you deserve!”

“Yeah, and you deserved it when your ex girlfriend lit your things on fire after you cheated on her.”

His face twisted, “Mind your damn business, skank!”

“What the hell!? Are you stalking him?” One of his friends asked, with a grimace.

“I stalk everyone.” Of course who am I to say why I do that? I would get tormented more.

“Why?”

“Well, why not? It’s fun”

But really, it’s because I lack social interaction, forcing me to just observe people. Just like I said, I know how everyone works.

“Fuck off, you hurt our friend!”

“Wah wah wah boo hoo shut the fuck up.” I waved the angry group of idiots off in a shooing gesture and set my lunch tray down with a click to the floor. Standing up, I checked my clothes for any cold milk marks and grumbled.

so immature. I bet this wouldn’t happen in college.

My combat boots clomped their way to the bathroom… in a completely different building.

stepping outside, the gentle breeze hit my already cold face. I let a puff of air out and breathed it back in. For some reason, being outside has always made me feel extremely free somehow. Just me, nature, animals who don’t give a fuck about me and—

Thud!

I bounced back and opened my eyes. I had run into a dude I have never seen in my life.

“That’s on me, sorry man.”

My eyes widened, “no, it’s alright, I didn’t even have my eye’s opened.”

He blinked for a moment, sharp violet eyes finally hit my blueish ones. “You… didn’t see me doing… ya know… right?”

I raised my eyebrow at his strange question. What does he mean by that—

Oh.

I stood there awkwardly trying to figure out what to do. Who even does that in public… let alone in front of a school!?

“Uh, like I said I had my eyes shut.”

He relaxed his shoulders before tensing up once more. “You… don’t smell anything… do you?”

smell? Now, why would I smell that?

“I don’t smell anything…?”

He narrowed his eyes. “You sure?”

Woah! He’s scaring me!

“I’m sure” I said slowly.

He relaxed, throwing something behind him. “Okay, well, if you did see or smell,” he pointed at me, “don’t you dare tell anyone.”

I decided to finally ask the big question— “why would I even smell that Though?”

“What?”

“you know, like… gosh do I even have to say the word?”

Pink suddenly painted his tan face. “You thought I was doing something else? I wasn’t doing whatever the hell you are thinking!”

“Then what were do doing?”

he side-eyed me. “What makes you think I would tell you?”

“Look at me, do I look like someone who would say anything?”

He paused for a moment, getting a good look at me before saying anything.

“Oh yeah, damn,” he winced, looking at my now soggy shirt. “I was freakin’ out so much that I didn’t even notice that.”

“Some jackass poured milk on me for exposing his family’s debt.”

his jaw hung open. “Shit, well, I’m ain’t tellin’ ya now!”

“You’re like the only person I have had a decent conversation with in my entirety of high school.” I examined his interesting style. Baggy jeans. A leather jacket, piercings, hell, we almost have the same combat boots! “and besides, you don’t seem basic at all.”

His eyes shimmered, “Nobody has ever told me that—”

“Huh.”

“Damn.” He said, pausing hesitantly, “I was smoking.”

Chapter Notes

Hey! It’s me, the author.

First off, thank you so much for clicking on this!

Second off, I want to note that SOME things may change later. For example, I have been on the fence about having Jane’s name Janette or not. (let me know what you think about that!)

Another thing: when I write, I may accidentally write gibberish. I think I have edited it all out, but let me know if you spot any! (It would be pretty fun to just paste some of the gibberish I find into my chapter notes.)

Please let me know if you have ideas for this story, I would absolutely love to hear them! (No harsh criticism allowed. Only constructive.)

Grammar corrections will come soon!
