The Taken Shadow
During the 19th-century, before Van Helsing seised the spread of Count Dracula, there was another vampire seeking to further their reach. Lady Malovia Crimson, the den mother of a small coven of vampires, keeping themselves hidden and secluded from the humans they hunted. Until of course, Lady Malovia’s fledgelings heard rumours of a small boy who could manipulate shadows in a small village a little bit away from the coven.
“Interesting...” Malovia smirked as she considered the opportunity.
“Let’s pay a visit to this village.”
“M-m’lady....are you suggesting that we attack the humans? Come out of hiding?” the vampire asked timidly.
“For a time, enough to gauge the usefulness of this boy. As well as getting ourselves all a snack.” Malovia replied calmly with a grin, showing off her fangs.
It was a beautiful night, in the village of Abery the farmers were just getting in from the fields after working the long day away. The homes were glowing a soft orange candlelight. Inside one of those houses though, Christopher Smith was playing with shadows. Christopher would take the shadows from the walls and make them physical, a wispy tendril to tap his mother on the shoulder and create structures like a little castle. His parents found his abilities to be very entertaining, but the young boy also had a condition, Albinism. Christopher had ghostly white skin and hair as well as piercing red eyes, and this made the boy a bit of a sight to the other villagers. Christopher lived happily, regardless of his condition. That is...until that night, the night Malovia Crimson attacked.
The vampires snuck into the village at the dead of night, remaining ever quiet while they searched for the house containing Christopher. Alas, they could not find the right home, so in a frustrated rage, Malovia roared “Burn it! Burn it all to the ground my pets!” the flames licked the walls of the houses before they erupted into a blaze. Most of the villagers made it out of their homes in time, only to be attacked by the vampires waiting hungrily for their prey. Christopher’s mother grabbed him out of bed, carrying him outside with his father before the two adults fell to the two vampires lying in wait. Christopher dropped to the ground and scrambled backwards through the doorway, staring up as the two monsters drained the blood from his parents. They looked at him. Christopher summoned a wall of shadow to protect himself, but this...was the worst thing he could have done. The two vampires grinned, they found the prize. Lady Malovia was pleased to see the dense wall of darkness standing between her and the burning home.
“Hello in there little human” She spoke with an almost soft tone, soaked in malice.
“G-go away....leave me alone” The boy squeaked in reply
“Oh I have no intentions of doing that, so tell you what, if you won’t come out....” Malovia began as she pushed through the black fog Christopher had created, enter the once happy home of the humans. Christopher had backed into a corner, trembling like a leaf in a hurricane as the vampires broke past his wall. Malovia tilted her head and smiled at the frightened boy as she approached him.“My my my.....look at you, so small and cute, to think you hold such a gift in your hands.....worry not, I’ll take good care of you.....” She placed her hands on his pale cheeks and smiled a fang-baring grin. “My. Little. Bunny.”
